Car Colours

Ok then, we all know that some cars look fantastic in one particular colour, and absolute ******* in another...

We also have our own opinions on what colours we like, which may or may not be the wame as above!

My question is.... what colour suits the Gen3 Prius, and what colour absolutely does not!!

It's in the eye of the beholder aka a personal choice. No rights or wrongs there.

It looks superb in White, not very inspiring I know but it does look good

mmmm, white wouldn't show the tiny tiny marks that show up on a dark colour either...

I'm milimeters away from swapping my 2 year old gen2 for a new gen3 - either black or white - I'm fed up with metallic colours 13.5k miles on mine, what sort of price should I be looking for I wonder?

with our gen3 we went for the black, looks smart, but does show every mark :censor:

Parkers have the prices as:

Original Price £20,682 Franchised Dealer £11,115 Independent Dealer £10,710 Private Good £10,105 Private Poor £8,520 Part Exchange £8,995

and that is with 20K miles so with 13.5K you can drive a harder bargain

Out of black or white I would go for white. The black is not a metallic and I find it gets dull looking very quickly. Great when clean, but even better when it was metallic. White does look good in my opinion on a prius.

Thanks for that, I think it's pretty certain that white will be the next one :)

I like and nearly bought a white one, but decided to go for silver instead.

The solid white is the best looking colour IMO, but because I don't have time to clean the car as often as I'd like, I chose silver due to the fact that it doesn't look dirty unless it's really filthy.

A work colleague has just got a white Auris Hybrid and it always looks dirty.

I have to say a friend of mine bought the metallic blue........wow that looked good standing in the sunshine too!

I've heard that all manufacturers are reducing the number of colours available - apparently saves them loads of money.

Not just colours but lots of models in a line up too. One time of day you got a 3 door, 5 door, hatch, estate, coupe and all sorts of trim and specials, let alone engine sizes etc etc. It's a sign of the times, it just costs far too much and takes too long to produce in a world where "Just in time" techniques are used to reduce stock and waiting times

Yes, silver does look nice.

I'd also agree with an earlier poster that the choice of colours is really poor, basically you've got various shades of black (including dark blue) and white, with the only true colour on offer a red.

I think all the colours look OK.

Although with black, you get a colour matched rear spoiler :)

Everyone has their own view on colours. My Gen2 is 'Tyrol Silver' and I think it looks real classy. This seems to be the same as the one in the photo at the top of the page.

On prices, forget Parkers. All the dealers use Glass's on-line and you should to. Go here and stump up £3.50 and you'll be negotiating on exactly the same basis as the dealers. If you do a national search here you will find out what the dealers are selling them for.

Parkers (like any other company) is a guide, just like the "Glasses GUIDE" Not everybody uses Glasses although they have made a comeback in recent times when everybody used to use "Cap" as the motor trade bible. Save your £3.50 and buy a bacon butty when you are satisfied with the deal you had ;) Basing your part exchange on what dealers sell them for is going to make you extremely disappointed, everything has a buying price AND a selling price, the price you need to worry about is the "Cost to change" so while your P/EX price is important, it is not the only consideration. What is good for one person is useless to another, for instance, you might be able to negotiate free servicing, fine for one person, but no good if (like Anchorman) you do your own servicing. Don't accept the first price, haggle, see who else can sell you the car you want at a better cost to change, taking into consideration any finance deals or offers that are RIGHT FOR YOU and forget everybody elses opinion

Good luck, there are plenty of dealers (like us) that sell all over the country, make a few calls/emails and see what is on offer out there

Fullly agree that the true cost to exchange is what counts. Our previous trade in we got £6000 less than what we bought it for 3 years earlier and 55000 miles ago. But then again I bought it with a huge discount. However part of the deal was, to trade in now whilst the new car didn't arrive until a month later. Heck I just rented a car for a month :-)

This time around we agreed a price for our murano back in may whilst the prius didn't arrive until two days ago. The overarching factor, since it was my wives car, was the ease of exchange. I could have gotten a few hundred extra sure but not with the convenience of driving in with the old and driving off with the new. That combined with a decent discount on the prius, 3 years free servicing and 5 years warranty made me quite pleased. I was even more so surprised when our dealer gave me a returns form for the tax on our murano. Never ever when trading in a vehicle I have had the tax back ;-)

It's da law! Refunds on VED can only be made to the registered owner these days

Sure my point was why would they want to untag the vehicle to then just have to tax it when they sell it?

Because when a car comes into stock it might be there 2-3 months before being sold, and not many people would buy a car with only a short tax period left on the screen. Gone are the days where the dealer would keep the old tax disc and cash it in, that has to be done by the registered keeper, the disc itself has no real value to the dealer these days. It is easier for a dealer to do the DVLA paperwork and tax the car all in the new owners name at the same time
