Spare Wheel Bag

Hi all,

Needed the peace of mind of having a spare wheel so got myself an OEM alloy(off e-bay) for my XT5, as I have had one puncture, luckily not far from home, and I know it's only a matter of time before I get another, probably in the middle of nowhere.

Now, the gunk provided with the car is only a temporary "get you to garage" measure, and apparantly costs £30-ish to replace (I know a can of tyre-weld is a lot cheaper), but to be told by a tyre fitter that they wont clean the tyre and fix it, only replace the tyre, means another outlay of £115-ish for a new tyre. So my £90 "new" spare wheel, in theory could be cheaper than the cost of one puncture (and a damn sight more convenient)

I think, like many others, that the whole situation regarding the lack of spare, then problems encountered after the actual puncture is totally ridiculous to say the least.

Anyway, rant over, what I'm after now, is a suitable bag to store it in, anyone got any suggestion as to where I can get one from?

Thanks.

Yes, i have seen these, but none of them fit this size wheel according to their own adverts, but previous threads show our 17" alloys in bags !

OK, yes, mine came off eBay.

If I can remember the tyre size without going and looking (I can't be ****ed at the moment - 225/65R17 isn't it?).

So, I guess you want a bag that is at least 225*0.65*2 + (17*25.4) = 724mm diameter and at least 225mm deep.

So, this one would probably do it:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAN-4x4-SUV-SPARE-TYRE-WHEEL-COVER-LPG-16-17-18-19-20-/220655779421?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item33601bfe5d

Well, it will take a bigger 235/65/R17 anyway.

You could always email the seller as he suggests if in any doubt, or look for a cheaper one.

Hope that helps.

It's the same type as the one I got for a spare R18 for my T180. My 235/55/R18 wasn't on the list but there was one near enough that seemed to fit the bill, and it fitted like a glove when it arrived.

But you can send a comment to the seller asking to confirm that he was one for the size of your tyre.

It does the job - material and carrying handles are robust enough to easily protect and hold the wheel and tyre. It's just a bag for a wheel!
