Central Locking & Dome Lights Not Working

I have a 2000 Toyota Avensis with 25,000 miles on it, the central locking and the dome light has stopped working. I have to manualy put the key in the drivers door to unlock it, this does not open the other doors, so its a bit of a pain with passengers having to individualy let them in and locking their doors afterwards.

Having searched in this and other forums and also refering to the haynes manual I have done the following to no avail.

I have removed and tested all the fuses under the bonnet and next to the drivers steering wheel, I have made sure that the terminals are clean and put a meter across them to made sure there's an electrical circuit.

I have also replaced the integration unit under the fuse box next to the steering wheel.

It still does not work!

Anybody any ideas or previous experience with this, its driving me crazy.

Can I diagnose this with a computer?

Same thing happened to me with my avensis fortunately it was under warranty still , they provided me with two new keys as they appeared to have stopped working like yours and while it was in the service manager noticed the dome light was off and he said Ahhhhhhhhhhhh , replaced the bulb and hey presto everything worked again ?

Try the fuse marked 'DOME' in the the engine compartment fuse box. It is rated at 7.5A. It can degraged but not actually blow. It is an Avensis thing.

Happened to me a few years back.

Found the solution in this forum, so passing it on to you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all he help, I eventualy replaced all the fuses and the dome light came back on and all the doors open with the key.

I now have to find out how to reprograme the fob to work the doors, it has not been working for at least 3 years so I have replaced the batteries and I am of to find the instructions. Once done this will make this fine old car like new.

I had the same problem just a few weeks ago with a 1999 Avensis estate. It turns out that the dome lights and the radio receiver for the central locking (it receives the signal from the key transmitter) are operated by the same fuse. It also apparently supplies power to the clock when the ignition is turned off, my clock stopped whenever the engine was not running. Changing the fuse (after fixing the shorted dome light bulb) fixed the lights, the locks, and the clock!

Sold my 99 Avensis at the weekend. Just before handing it over the central locking, clock, mileage trip, and interior lights failed. Having owned an excellent car 11 years and 9 months from new I experienced my most embarrassing (admissible) moment. I have just texted the suggested solutions in the forum to the new owner and have fingers crossed. What a great way to find ways and means.

hi, i have an avensis 1998 1.8 cdx and the central locking, interior light, personal light and trunk light no longer work. also the lock only keeps time when ignition turned on. i have changed the 7.5A Dome fuse as it was blown so used the spare fuse and that then blew so i am guessing there is a short somewhere. where the CL and Alarm no longer work i am using key lock now which is a right pain especially since i have a baby and a dog to get in the car. even more annoyingly there is no key lock in the passenger door which makes it even more awkward. when I start the engine the hazard lights flash and will eventually stop after appx 30 secs. the problem i have now is that when i turn the engine off and exit the car the hazard lights flash then go off then start flashing again. I now have to disconnect Battery to stop this everytime to stop Battery going flat.

any ideas guys as this is really bugging me and makes it such a chore to unlock and lock the car.

cheers

i have since removed interior light, trunk light and personal light as advised by someone i know to see if a bulb is shorting but still the problem remains. i am struggling to find anyone who stocks 7.5A fuses. I know these lights and the CL is part of the Dome fuse circuit so I obviously until i replace the fuses these wont work but should the hazards lights stop flashing if I found the short culprit?
