I have just had my RAV MOT and have advisory of N/s/r suspension bump stop in poor condition, is this a easy job? or best left to garage.

It would be a lot easier to answer if your profile said a bit more about what model you have

ON THE EARLY MODELS ITS FAIRLY EASY.

How did it get into that state? Off-roading /towing or just load?? Bit unusual

My profile says RAV4 XT-R and its a D4D, its done 65,000 and I tow a caravan and has a low nose weight but only no more then 3 times a year.

Its not bad enough to fail but is strange its in a bad state.

It is strange. i guess its a 5 door ( ) but even then... perhaps its been affected by diesel fuel??

For interst, I have caravan spring assisters fitted to my 3 door number 1 RAV to stop the backend bottoming when doing the drag strip racing. A good cheap fix which might also help you. Doesn't affect normal driving but helps a lot when the pressure is on.

OK I've had a look and there is very little info in the manual about the bumper specifically. However, if you look at the attached pdf you can see it is only secured by one central bolt. If you are lucky, with the weight off the car you might be able to get a socket in and the manoeuvre the bump stop out through the coils. If not you will have to undo the bottom shock absorber bolt to lower the arm and let the spring free. Nowthen! Just a quick warning, if you get into suspension stripping mode and decide you want to give it all a good looking at, the inner link joints have vernier settings and eccentric bushes to allow setting of the camber so don't unless you intend having it all reset after!!!

Thats a idea might go for that. I have been caravanning for a number of years and none of my cars have needed anything adding so surprised that a Rav needs this.

But thanks for your advice
