HI, in order to register my new car (Toyota Corolla Spacio 2001 import) with DVLA, I have to change my speedometer to MPH. I have to put it through IVA test first but I am straggling to find the correct Dial face for my car. I was advised that I might not be able to find a dial face for my car but what I can use instead is something called speedm8. I also need to install category 2 immobilizer and rear fog light with on/off switch. I live in Slough and I need someone to help me to convert my car to UK standard.

Can anyone please help me, I am really straggling.

plzzzzzzzzz help

Hi,

I have just joined the forum. I am in the process of importing my 2001 Toyota Spacio from Cyprus. My understanding is if a vehicle older than 10 years is imported into UK it only needs to pass the MOT (no speedo check),and no IVA test is required. Who told you that you require a Cat2 immobiliser?

How did you get on with the conversion? Any problems insuring the car?

Ken

I have a Speedm8 fitted on my car. It's a box that converts the speed pulse going to the dashboard. Other makes are available.

It does mean the speedo needle's travel is less (70mph is at a different place than 120kmh, for example) , but also the odometer and trip meter will start clocking in miles as well.

They are for electronic speedos which I guess most modern cars are. In the days of cable driven speedos you could buy a little mechanical reduction gear for the speedo.
