hi IM JUST A NEW MEMBER AND HAVE BOUGHT A AVENSIS 1.8 VVTI izz-fe ENGINE WERE THESE ENGINES MODIFIED TO STOP USING OIL IT IS A 54 PLATE WITH 58000 MILES IT DOES NOT SEEM TO USE OIL UP TO NOW THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY REPLIES

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. Your car should be ok but frequent checking for a while will give you a good idea how much oil it is using, around a pint per thousand miles is acceptable but some engines will do far more. I always check all my levels weekly but i'm very keen on that sort of thing, once you find that the car is using very little oil checking every 300/500 miles "may" suit your needs but that will be up to you. Best of luck with the car and I hope you have trouble free motoring which is the norm with most toyota vehicles.

Best Regards Pete.

I bought an Avensis T3-X on a 54 plate 6 month ago with 50000 miles on the clock. The oil consumption was about 1.2 litres per 1000 miles. Luckily I bought the car from a Toyota dealer and I now have a new engine. The worrying thing is there was no blue smoke at all and the car run absolutly fine. And the car had full service history.

My advice would be if your car is not burning oil; change the oil / filter every 5000 miles. 10000 miles between services is far too many miles in my eyes.

I wish you luck with the car as desipte the issue I had, i really like the car.
