You may just be missing the fact that Boozehound has come on here from the VW forums and trolled his way through the topic with homophobic comments.

The comments that he recieved in reply were expressed as "banter"by many TOC members who know him for trolling several topics.

By now maybe you will have read all of the topic and reallised that Boozehound was being "flamed" (or wound up) by the TOC members for his constant references to "Jezza"

Best not to be taken too seriously!

I personally feel that is it Boozehounds homophobic dark side / curiosity that leads to his homophobic comments, maybe he discuss this along with the how much better his VW is on fuel compared to his old T180 on the VW forum? nothing as strange as folk.

  • 2 months later...

Well I was in my local Toyota dealer around 4 weeks ago and due to the T180 warranty running out at the end of OCT and the poor MPG I asked the salesman about the Auris Hybrid, now if the figures and price is right I am 99% certain we will go for a new car so I explained this to the salesman. Well Arran (the salesman) said he was very busy for the next 2 hours as the regional manager was coming over but that he would sort some figures out and get back to me later that day or the next day, well 4 weeks later we have heard nothing so it now appears Toyota don't sell new cars any more so on Sunday we dropped into Honda and test drove a CRZ, well the best word to sum it up is very impressed and shocked.

The Good Points

MPG was a lot better than our T180 diesel and so was the low down acceleration, we found the car more than capable up to 70mph but will say that in 6th gear at 50mph overtaking would not be great with out dropping down a few gears. We found the handling and ride to be very good and sharp along with the brakes and was shocked at how good and responsive the car was even in normal mode (especially when you know it is only a little 1.5 engine)

The Bad Points

Unless you are 4ft tall the back seat is no use or ornament, and this maybe a small niggle but coming from a car with key-less entry and ignition I would have preferred the same as we never take the key fob out of our pocket.

Would We Buy A CRZ

Well the simple truth is we would in the GT spec but unfortunately Honda don't seem to do any good offers or deals on these so the answer is No, if Honda had some good offers (0% finance etc) then we would be talking figures now and not typing this.......

The salesman (Brent) did say that he feels around February there will be good offers on these and if so will give us a call as to be honest we feel this could be our next car.

Well Today our T180 is in at MR T for the service and we have an Auris Hybrid curtsey car, MPG driving home with mixed driving as was having a play was 56mpg so it was very good on fuel but would I buy one? In white they look nice but the loan car we have is the silver the same as our T180 and giving it a look round I found a lot of the design of the T180 that makes it look a brute have been lost to square flat edges and TBH I don't like it and find the car looks very bland. In fact it looks so bland that I will say that when I bought a Civic Type R back in 06 I also looked at a Golf GTD and never got as far as a test drive as I found that to be similar in the fact I could not pick fault with it but could not really find anything good to say about it (for the money you pay) and when I looked at the Civic in the same price range it was the CTR all the way.

Apart from the looks what I don't like and puts me off the most is the gearbox / drive, the swap over from Battery to engine is perfect but I would prefer a manual box as I am not keen a CVT style auto transmission where the car just revs and accelerates even through a lot of manufacturers prefer this technology over a normal auto gearbox. What we do know is our next car is 90% sure will be an Hybrid if the price is right and I would like a car that will see 40MPG on a regular trips so hence a 24hour test drive will be done beforehand to make sure we don't get stung again like we did with the T180 Toyota quoted figures that no one can achieve. But having test drove the CRZ and Auris Hybrids I will say hands down the CRZ wins for me even through the most MPG it will ever see IMO will be around 50MPG on the road were the Auris should achieve 60MPG on the road, and the best bit for the CRZ is that Honda are said to be working on a 1.6 turbo with Hybrid for a CRZ Type R that should still give good MPG and with around 200bhp on tap will be an Hybrid hot hatch but the downside is this will not be before 2013.

Just read the Times article of a new Prius hybrid vs a BMW 5 2.0 diesle from London to Geneva on a mix of roads, guess which was more economical? NOT the smaller lighter hybrid!!!!

Do the same test but in urban start stop traffic, say from Tooting (south london) to Colindale (North London) in morning rush hour and i would put my money on the lighter hybrid.

You can make anything look better given the correct favourable conditions.

Also take into account of particulate emissions and tax cost, i think the Prius wins if you put all things into consideration.
