Tyres And Wheels Question (Again)

Hi Everyone. Still in love with my T180 after 6 weeks - and they said it wouldn't last! I know there have been lots of threads about the run-flat tyres with steel rims on the T180 but I wondered whether there is a definitive, sensible answer to this dilemma.

My local dealer has the gear to change the tyres but I'm not sure what happens if I'm away from the area as there doesn't seem to be a national list of garages who will do the work. Two of my tyres will need changing in the next few months so I am wondering what my options are. Has anyone changed all their wheels and tyres and overcome the dash warning light problem? Could I put ordinary run-flats on the wheels I have?

Sorry if this has been aired before.

Email me at martinguy@aol.com and I will be able to send you a list of companies, from Bridgestone, who say they can change the runflats, as well as the Toyota dealers - the runflats have a steel inner ring. You should check with your insurance company before you intend making any changes to the vehicle specification or you might find yourself un-insured in the event a claim !

I do not see what all the fuss is about, yes the replacement tyres are quite expensive but so are other tyres for high performance vehicles and they are a good safety feature. I do have a spare wheel which I only put in the back when I am away from home for some time but always carry the lists.

The fuss for me, as said many times before, is the inconvenience of not pulling up into Kiwik Fit or whatever, and having the tyre changed on the spot. The cost, is not a major factor for me, although it could be cheaper!! Then there is the fact that over 50% of the time the dealers seem to damage the inner ring, and charge you for it, claiming that you did it whilst driving on them!! That's another £100+!! Then there's the valve, which also quite often gets damaged, and is also blamed on the owner. If you look back, one owner had to pay something like £450 for one tyre!!

To OP, I've changed all four of my wheels and tyres, but have had the dash warning light flashing at me for months!! I've just learnt to ignore it. If it really bothered you, "shcm" thinks he can diable it, but not having a T180 he hasn't had chance to try. I informed my insurance company, just telling them I have replaced the factory wheels with new alloys of the same size. My last insurers charged me for it, but when I renewed with a differnet company a few weeks ago, it made no difference to my premium.

I`ve had the same worries since buying my T180 in June.Dont mind driving around the UK,but next year will be doing regular runs over to France.Discussed this issue with the local Toyota dealership, who can change the runflats, but would not give any recomendations on altering the wheels/tyres.I was quoted 650 pounds for a brand new 18" alloy + run flat tyre,to carry as a spare. This according to Parts-King is a very, very good price.Checked out eBay & as luck would have it found a second hand T180 wheel & tyre,c/w sensor, for half the price. They are out there, just keep looking.
