Limp Mode, Again!

OK folks, am at my wits end so thought I would try this. Reseated as many connector as I could then took the car for a gentle run. No quick stuff. Mpg went from 27 to 38!

However nearing home I gave it a quick blast and 30 seconds later all the warnings came on and straight into limp mode.

Is this not pointing to a turbo over-boost problem? EGR is spotless!

I have no code-reader so will leave the alarms on until I get one or get to a dealer.

Thanks guys

Ron

While you are suffering these snags Ron it would pay you to get one of these;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/U480-Diagnostic-Scanner-CAN-OBD2-EOBDII-Code-Reader-NEW-/150403709077?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2304c27895

Keep your chin up, we'll get to the bottom of it

Anchs min,

Is it worth even us, the great uninitiated, procuring said device in order to at least be able to advise the great initiated of a fault code should it occur? Can only just about work out how to get a 12 volt reading on a multimeter after some weeks' practice !!!

Big Kev

It wouldn't harm Kev. One trip to the dealer (out of warranty) would cost more. One of these cheap readers will read and cancel codes on T1 and T2. I was concerned that Ron's fault was a red herring and the latest glytch would seem to confirm it. Codes don't always take you straight to the problem but they can narrow the process down somewhat.

just befoe u buy anything just check all the pipes there are alot of small ones that go round the back of the head (drivers side) make sure they are not split also u can have a build up of carbon on the boost control ring in turbo but u have to srtip it to see it check the pipes first

Update : took it to the dealer today and it is the 0400 code = EGR. They cleaned a lot of the tubes, that is the only info I could get but once they put it all back together I have a permanent "limp mode" and the 0400 code. Joy of joys, 30 miles to get home being overtaken by milk floats and heubiks. They have diagnosed a faulty EGR valve and will fit a new one tomorrow afternoon, under warranty it seems as the new one was fitted in February. If that doesnt work they think it might be electrical.... :crybaby:

At least they're doing it under warranty  The good thing is that now they've started its hard for them to close the claim without fixing it.

My thoughts entirely anchorman, I was delighted the car was worse after they did their diagnosis and cleaning, ball is in their court now!

OK, new EGR valve fitted today and I returned 34 mpg on the 30 mile journey back. All under warranty! Though if they open the valve they will realise the threadlock is no longer existent.....

Fingers crossed ;)

So have they fitted the modified one now?

I had the modified one fitted in Feb this year but got my first EML in July and had ongoing problems since. Am still not convinced it is sorted but if not Toyota are well in the loop now. Will keep you posted Anchorman

Good news.

Do you know if the first replacement was the new part No?

Yep it was indeed and that's why they did the job under warranty thankfully. The old one looked fine but maybe there was an internal electrical problem with it. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed the problem is solved....

Yeah - it needs some weeks of validation now. Abuit disturbing that it failed so soon but maybe they did other things this time.
