Hi

Has anyone here experinced problems with the EPS steering system.

Yesterday my wife went shopping, and when starting back up, following alarm showed up, "check power steering" she tried to start up a couple of times and finally the alarm died. When I tried this morning the indicator says the same error code.

Anyone got a clue or possible malfunction reason?

Haven't heard of that problem. All I could suggest would be disconnecting the Battery for an hour or so to reset ECU and then try again. If you that you will probably have to "program" the electric windows "one touch" feature. Wind window down, then pull and hold the button until window at top and continue holding for 15 seconds or so.

If a reset is no good then you will need to get any fault codes read by a dealer I guess.

I think I saw similar problem described on the forum. It was intermittent and don't remember the solution. Try searching for it.

Sorry Mooly but I don't understand your post. Why re-programming electric window may help with EPS? Is it a Toyota feature that I am not aware of?

...when starting back up, following alarm showed up, "check power steering" she tried to start up a couple of times and finally the alarm died. When I tried this morning the indicator says the same error code...

first time check the Battery voltage; if you have bellow 11 V, this problem could appear.

then, have your car checked with the portable diagnostic device and find out the fault code (something like C****, where first group of two * is possible to be 15).

close the windows completely and you don't need to reprogram this feature  .

...Why re-programming electric window may help with EPS? ....

re-programming the windows module, of course doesn't help EPS :), but resetting the ECU (if you remove Battery "-" terminal for at least 10 sec.) at mostly of cars is compulsory...

  • 4 weeks later...

I went to the petrol station to get my usual sunday newspaper when i went to start my auris the eps light came on. I had to get to recovered to the local toyota dealership who had to replace the eps ecu unit. Set me back £580 and i only had the vehicle for 3 months!

if your auris is out of warranty but has a full main dealer service history if it was me i would be asking for a large toyota contribution to the cost

I am having a similar problem. I have a 2009 Toyota Corolla. Recently it just switches off by itself (even at 80Km/hr) and displays the alarm "check power steering". I notice it happens less frequently when I switch off my iPhone 4. Do you have a iPhone 4? I have sent a mail to toyota but no reply yet.

Hi

Thanks for feedback. Turned out that they had to replace both the electric engine and the built in computer. Dont ask me! But they were nice enougt to put it in the warranty.
