HI ALL

THAT HORRID LITTLE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AGAIN. I WAS GOING TO IGNORE IT AS MOTOR WAS RUNNING PERFECT.

THEN I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. SO I CHECKED THE FUSES AND THEY ALL SEEM OK. WHEN I STARTED ENGINE

AGAIN THE ENGINE IS LUMPY ON IDLING AND IDLING TO SLOW, BUT OK WHEN REVED UP, WHEN I TOOK ONE OF THE FUSES OUT SOMETHING STARTED BEEPING BUT STOPPED WHEN I REPLACED FUSE.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF TAKING THE FUSE OUT HAS CAUSED IDLE PROBLEM, AND IS LIGHT ON BECAUSE SPEEDO NOT WORKING

ALSO WHAT FUSE COVERS SPEEDO

THANKS JOHN

Hi John

One of the others will have to look in their book to see what fuse the speedo is. You could just try wriggling the wire on the speed sensor on the gearbox. I would imagine the warning light is an oxy sensor or MAF but reading the codes may give a bit more info.

BTW, ssshhhh! Stop shouting and hit that caps lock button

Thanks for reply

fiddled with speedo wires this morning and behold the speedo is now working, and the managment light is not on :yahoo:

But idling is still lumpy about 400rpm in gear, before i touched fuses it was 800rpm

i would not have thought it was manual adjustment on carb (if there is any?)

what determines idle speed is it the computor?

thanks john

Yes but a faulty oxy sensor or MAF will make a bggr of it. Best to get those codes. You can get them flashed but Luke will rollock you if you don't do it carefully!!!

Mass AirFlow meter. If fitted, it should be near the air filter in the pipe to the inlet manifold.

Hi all

I have removed and cleaned the MAF (it did not appear to be dirty) But still got problem

light has not come on again and speedo is ok. Car is running great except on idle.

As the engine warms up from cold the idle revs reduce as it warms up it drops to 400rpm

was 750rpm before. If you then tweek the steering wheel or turn on A/c the revs rise to 800rpm. then drops when a/c is off or steering left alone.

read on earlier post about idle control motor and IAC (are they the same)

any advise please. :help: john

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all

It has been running perfect since last post, then suddenly the speedo stopped working and light came on again, I realise now that last time i fiddled with wires it was a fluke that speedo worked again because i was touching wires that were nothing to do with speedo.

my question is where is the sensor sighted on my car? Unfortunatly off the shelf readers

are not accepted by car, i have tried 2, so i have to take it to mrT whenever light comes on. thanks john

The speed sensor is down the back of the gearbox, near where you can see the driveshafts. Take the plug off and give it a squirt with WD40. I also seem to remember ther is a potential for this fault at the back of the fuse box where the wires come through the bulkhead.
