Reversing Lights

Is there something wrong with my 2010 Avensis tourer or are the reverse lights just a complete pile of poo? At night the only way I can see behind me is to use the camera, not good in my mind. Every other car I have ever owned has had good reaversing lights but this is just aweful. The brake lights provide more illumination.

Am I missing the point, or are reversing lights not more to warn other drivers of the fact that YOU are reversing?

Have had Avensis, now Rav4, and would never claim they have enough lights to reverse by....

The reversing lights on the Avensis T27 Tourer are as usefull (or pointless) as in any other car.

Problem is, visibility to the rear on this model is such, that you cannot see from the driver's position where the lights shine at. :(

That's a "feature" of the body shape.

I noticed this during the test drive and had the rear Parking Aid installed from new.

It works, but depending on where you usually park, a reversing camera would probably be better (and a lot more expensive).

I've been a company car driver for many years so am used to cars having quirks but not being well illuminated at the rear is something I have not encountered to this extent. No, the reverse lights should light up behind you and are not meant as just a warning.

Aside from that the car is very good. I'm still getting used to the handbrake but I am sure that will come. There are some minor niggles that could have had a little more thought by the designers IMO. For instance, the folding door mirrors could have a setting that folds them when the engine is stopped like many other brands do. The window lock button should in my mind prevent all the other doors from operating the windows but not the driver, a simple wiring adjustment is all that would be required for that one. Finally, Toyota have done a great job of integrating everything. However the clock on the dash and the one in the GPS are not synced. Not an easy one to fix I know but having to set the time on the dash is something other brands did away with in their higher models a long time ago favouring getting them set via the radio/rds or gps.

All minor niggles on what is otherwise a nice car which I am sure I will enjoy over the next 2 years I have it. As long as I don't hit anything reversing up the road that is.

hi barry 321

when i had my mondeo st,(not the latest model it had electric folding mirrors but they did not fold when locking car remote, though the car was top of the range, had loads of goodies as standerd.i used the ford owners site then and some wizard sorted out a way to modify the system through the generic electronic control unit

using a relay and a couple of lengths of wire.he posted pictures and and step by step how to do the mod.

several people did this and were well pleased.the mirrors on my auris dont electricly fold (a shame) but if they did i would try and find someone who new what they were doing to sort it out like the above.
