Fuel Tank Replacement

I live in France, I have a rhd 1999 Avensis 2.0TD estate, best car i've ever had, however, i've developed a diesel leak from the fuel tank, local garage says it's rotten and needs replacing including all the mountings/fittings, only 600 euro! my question is, what are the fittings that need changing as i intend to buy the tank and the parts from the uk, the french don't do japanese cars very well, or cheaply. thanks for any help/pointers :o)

It surprises me that they only charge € 600 for labour (and all material ?) since it's quite a time consuming job.

That is, on a T25 onwards but I doubt on a T22 it was much simpler.

If you want to see what's involved, download the .RAR archive from the link below and find the fuel.pdf file.

Open that file and search for "fuel tank" on a diesel type engine.

The drawings denote the fittings that are non-reusable.

Again, that's on a T25.

Be careful though, I was once quoted €950 to replace a supposedly leaking water pump.

In France, on a french made car, by an official dealership. :censor:

I refused, and as it turned out, there was nothing wrong with the pump.

Moral: get a second opinion and have it all on paper!

thanks for the reply, mine is in fact a 1999 model, the link seems to be for a 2002-2005 model. any idea where i could get a copy of the manual for the 1998-2003 model? i'm sure it would be cheaper to get it done in the uk, just a matter of getting over there to do it, if it would still be cheaper once the ferry cost was added on. thanks again for the advice. J
