Hi all,

This is a question overhanging from my other thread on the T/SR180. I'm adament at the moment that when I start hunting for a '180' in the new year (any potential 180 sellers - take note!) I want the built-in Sat Nav.

Regarding the Sat Nav:

Can anyone give me the lowdown on:

1) How good it is?

2) What can it do?

3) Is it I-pod compatable?

4) DAB? Extras?

5) Also - whats is it called (TNS 500? 700?)

I've been scouring the internet trying to find out infomation about it. Alas - no such luck.

Any help from existing Auris owners who have this fabled £1500 extra would be greatly appreciated.

James

hi there

I can't comment on the Auris satnav, but I've had Toyota Satnav for the last 4 cars, two avensis, one prius, and my new prius - I've never got lost with any of them, I've never had any problems understanding them and providing you use them with a modicum of common sence there is no problem!

As far as the connectivity, I have an i-pad, connects to my gen3 prius immediately via bluetooth for music, not fully functional on the car side, but it brings the music over. The phone connected immediately and transferred contacts faultlessly .... I'm sure that there will be those that whinge about it, but then there are those that whinge about anything!!

I'm a happy bunny with what I've got, and no doubt there are others out there that also are happy!

sorry can't help more

Thanks for your input Jan&tone.

2) What can it do?

3) Is it I-pod compatable? (Does it physically connect to the stereo-system? So I get crystal clear sound/full bass?)

4) DAB? Extras?

5) Also - whats is it called (TNS 500? 700?)

Thanks for your input Jan&tone.

Regarding the Sat Nav:

1) How good it is?

It is good but I would not say it is better than a good TOM TOM with Traffic Master . The biggest gripe I have is that once moving it locks most of the functions allowing you only operation of what Toyota considers safe basic functions.

The Phone integration via bluetooth is good, I have not figured out if you can stream music via bluetooth, but considering the output sound comes only through the drivers door speaker I doubt it can carry out this function.

The TMC traffic management system, has bailed me out of serious traffic jams several times, but I would say at best the system is 50% reliable and this is more due to the traffic people updating information and sending it out, than the system itself.

MP3/WMA player wors well. I have a CD-RW which i have been re-writing every month or so and so far no problem with audio quality.

The system also has maintenance menu where if you want you can input mileage to tyre replacement, brake pads, oils, wipers, etc etc etc ... which I never bother with... but it is there...

The NAVI... you cannot type postcodes, but aside from that it seems pretty robust system, alas you have this limitation of updating destinations "on-the-fly", there are some voice controlled functions (e.g. "go home" will take you to whatever you defined as your home destination, "zoom in" "zoom out" will do exactly that.and some other voice commands which work well below 70 mph... apparently, the latest DVD update will allow on-the-fly adjustments of the NAVI system, but you'll have to check if this is true or not...

2) What can it do?

See above

3) Is it I-pod compatable? (Does it physically connect to the stereo-system? So I get crystal clear sound/full bass?)

Don't know , but you do have this available,

http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/bv/generic_editorial.jsp?navRoot=toyota_1024_root&nodiv=true&fullwidth=true&noLeftMenu=true&forceText=%3Cnone%3E&edname=as_Accessories&catname=/toyota_1024_root/main_nav&menuid=323791&zone=Zone+Ownership&id=AfterSalesAccessories

4) DAB? Extras?

DAB-No? Extras ? Maintenance tracker, Calendar for events, phone book/address book, MP3 WMA via CD disc.

5) Also - whats is it called (TNS 500? 700?)

TNS 700 , at least mine and checking against http://www.toyota-mapupdates.eu/?LandingPage=dealer_home_aftersales

I have a lovely T180 which i am running in quite nicely for you, let me know when you want it ... :P :P :lol::thumbsup:

comes with full Toymotors body kit, black, etc...07 reg....

The NAVI... you cannot type postcodes

On my 07 model auris you can input postcodes.

Select destination search by address, select town. A sub menu pops up and at the bottom you can select input post code. It will only accept the first part 3 or 4 digits from the post code though. After that you get a menu pop up a choice of the remaining part of the post code...............

Hope this helps
