My First 600 Mile Tank

Despite the cold morning starts, the Prius just gets better and better. When I filled up at the weekend, the tank trip meter flipped to 600.1 as I drove up to the pump. And I could only get 40 litres into the tank to refill it. :yahoo::toast::thumbsup:

Brilliant! Now that summer is back I'm looking forward to the same in mine. :)

Your lucky, i've never really had more than 450 miles on a full tank (short urban journeys = killer)

Journey started with a 300 mile round trip from Southampton to Leicester which used about half a tank (Prius mpg said 70, av speed 55mph) was doing 65 to 70 most of the time. That was when I thought I a 600 mile tank was on. The rest of the week was normal commuting which usually gets 70mpg but I was helped by a massive 85mpg run one morning. Traffic has been a bit heavier than usual (kids back at school) so the speeds have dropped a bit but this is good news for me in the Prius because the mpg goes up :)

When the last fuel gauge pip started to flash, I had done 550 miles so knew I could get to 600 before filling up. I usually get over 500 miles from a tank with normal use and current mpg is around 60 so a 600 mile tank was a possibility.

Think the cooler weather will start to bring down the mpgs. :(

If my maths is correct that's a 30 mile commute in one direction. I think your mpg is amazing given the speeds you say you were doing, still you must really have got into the zone of how to drive the Gen 3 efficiently. :toast:

I was surprised too. The daily commute is more of a low speed, nose to tail affair with a short burst of motorway in the middle and I can now get 60mpg easily. The impressive bit was the run to Leicester and back. I was trying out pulsing and gliding so maybe that is what did it. Normally, I try and keep a steady speed but this time traffic was light so I had a go at P&G. It's a bit weird with the speed going up and down!

I am still getting used to driving a hybrid but fuel consumption appears to be improving each fill up! I still had 3 bars remaining on the display but didn't want to run the tank too low so filled up last night after 430 miles and seem to have got 60.7 mpg.

I have driven another 30 miles today and the fuel computer reckons 70mpg ! Doubt I will keep that up though!

Wish I had the Gen 3 for even better figures!
