Ok - the story so far:

At 1600 to 1800 RPM (ish) - the Car runs like its missing a beat when neither accelerating or decelerating.....:

So Far I have:

Cleaned VRV Valve (Top rear (in the middle) of the Engine) - as described by ANCHORMAN...

Cleaned the EGR Valve

Changed the Fuel Filter

Cleaned the MAF

Used Injector Cleaner

Used MIllers Diesel Additive

Still the problem occurs :ffs: - But I have started to notice that in the mornings when it's Colder and the air is damper it does not do it....

My question is! - Does this sound like it would be a good idea to get a new MAF ???

Cheers in advance !

Hello

Mine does something very similar, and if you search under "hiccup" you'll probably find my posts. I have done all the things you have done except the Millers Additive, and also had the injectors, fuel pump and MAF sensor replaced. No improvement. I wondered if it was something to do with the SCV valve but I'm not at all sure about that and it's not cheap so I have decided to live with it and hope it does not get worse. Annoying, though!

If you find the solution be sure to let us know...!

Thanks for the info Maria....BY the way have you noticed that it does not do it on cold mornings????

Did you get all that work done under Warranty ?? - if not how much did that lot cost you....

Cheers!

Steve

The additives and filters I bought. Kind husband keeps cleaning the EGR. Injectors replaced under warranty as clattering terribly - faulty. MAF sensor swapped out by (very helpful) dealer as part of the trial-and-error efforts at diagnosis. Fuel pump ditto, also because another fault was misdiagnosed.

Have got used to the hiccups now so haven't really been looking out for weather/temp dependent changes. I do recall that I first noticed the problem when the engine was hot but the outside temp was sub-zero.

I've got various other niggles too - clunk when braking hard, loud creaks from the rear suspension, bad discs. Does anyone know exactly when Toyotas stopped being reliable? I'm thinking of part-exchanging my 4.3 for an older Landcruiser!

Have drive in a new XT-R. Take your cheque book.

Seth

You can check the resistance of the MAF but I can't give you the values just now. Maybe shcm can help.
