We're talking about a 4.2 right?

I don't know about more reliable as they are both normally very good. Some auto's were plagued with ECU problems which can be at least £500 to fix if you do it yourself but that is by no means a given.

The best thing is to hunt around for a clean one at the right price and get as much history as you can. Some of the guys with autos will look in but they tend to give between high 20s and high 30s depending on how and where they are driven.

Hi, If it is a 4.3 then the auto is quite smooth and returns 25-35 depending upon type of driving. I do find the transition between 3rd and overdrive when on cruise control to be really annoying on occasionS as there is such a big difference in gearing and it seems to hunt between the two gears on a gradient. Other than that if you like Autos then it is fine. I love Autos so have to declare a general bias.
