Front End Rumble

I have an 05 Plate 1.8 VVTi with a very noticable dull knocking/rumbling noise from the front end.

Noise occurs on eneven road surfaces but is fine on really smooth roads. I`m sure its from the front calipers because

there is play between the caliper and its carrier, and also the rumble stops when brake pressure is applied.

Can anyone advise, from experience, what I need to sort it out. Do I need to change the caliper carriers or simply the slide pins.

From enquiries to a local Toyota dealer, I am told the pins are about £30 per side and the carriers are about £60 for one side and about £90

for the other side. Why should the carriers be different prices when they are just handed versions of the same thing?

The most likely cause is the slide pins and bushes and you should be able to check the play in these.
