Do you not if the IQ door windows are tinted, As like to tint them if it is legal to do so.

Mr Ben

Do you mean if it is legal to tint the side window?

I am not sure if the IQ door windows are tinted

any one know?

I always thought they were very lightly tinted, but could be wrong.

The sides porthole windows have a slight tint on them, as does the back i think. I've tinted my back window with a limo tint. I didn't need the sides done in the end as they darkened down enough when the back was done.

It's nice to have it done, as I can't use the cloth cover to cover the back up, as my son sits in a child seat on one side.

Asked the question about all round tints and was told by my local tint company that you can have anything up to limo tint on the back & quarterlight windows but nothing on the main side windows !! As adding tint on top of tint would have a cumulative effect apparently even the lightest tint added to the existing one would take you over the legal tint limit !

I suppose the only way to know would be to ask your potential tinter what their view is. They issue the certificate to be compliant with the law so it would be their call really

ALL Toyota glass in a UK car has a tint from the factory, the rear quarters having more of a tint. The legal position is that the front side windows on all cars must allow 70% of light to pass through them. That figure also applies to the windscreens of cars first used before April 1985; any car first used from then onwards has to let 75% of light through the windscreen. Any tint applied behind the B post is OK (as I read it anyway) Window tints are not part of the MOT test (yet) but you can be stopped by a Police officer or VOSA to check out your car

The tint can be very light indeed, it would be unusual these days not to see any tint whatsoever???

Hold a piece of white paper on the other side of the glass to check

No window at the front can be tinted legally. Like Kingo said, the cars, all makes, come out of the factory with the maximum tint allowed, anything on top and you run the risk of a tug.

Easiest way to think about it when tinting, is you can tint the rear windows, or cover them in vinyls, or solid panels, all day long. You are only effectively turning your car into a 'van' visibility wise.

Although the Toyota website says rear window tints, the rear screen certainly doesn't have the same tint as the two small rear side windows. I'm going to get limo on the back of mine too, once I can get hold of my tint man. I was thinking of having a light shade applied to the rear sides, to make them close to the limo, but had the same line of thought as you in that they would appear darker once the rear screen has been done.

How did your tint place get on with fitting the film around the rear demister connections and high level brake light?

Front side windows usually have a slight tint to them and it's usually already at the legal limit. It's this reason I never even bothered having the lightest shade fitted to the front sides of my Lexus, because they were already at the legal limit and I didn't want to risk the hassle if I got pulled over because of it (I had limo all round the back). I was tempted to get the lightest shade applied to the front sides of the iQ, but sensibility took over.

Yes, I would agree even if you tried to put a light tint film on the door windows that have already have a slight tint from the factory it will make the windows darker and will take you past the legal limit so therefore best just left alone. and if you wish to tint the back and tailgate windows that ok.

Morning,

The guy who tinted it basically laid the film on the outside of the rear window, cut the shape he needed, then applied it to the inside. When he got to the demisting connectors, he just used the scapel to cut round them. From the inside you can see the cut, but outside you would never know.

I was really lucky with my guy, found him by chance. Places were asking up to £140 for the back and 2 little windows, he charges £25 a panel, but did the back for £20!!

Hi, yes the front windows are tinted, I don't know what shade, I wanted darker but the tint fitters said they would only fit a legal shade but it is dark enough for people not to see you properly.

I finally caught up with my tint man this week and we're going to go with limo on the back, as I've always done, and he's going to apply the necessary shade to the rear side windows so the back of the car matches. I'm taking it in on Tuesday.

I would like to see a picture of the rear quarter to see the back screen and the rear side windows.

I'm pretty sure the iQ comes with front side glass from the factory that already allows the legal minimum amount of light through, so technically applying even the lightest shade of tint to them will make them illegal.

I would like to apply a light shade to my front side windows, but despite the amount of cars I've seen locally with dark front side windows it would be my luck that I get pulled for it, then you have to get it removed and prove that this has been done.

My Eclipse Black iQ3 is going in to have the rear windows made limo black tomorrow. I'll post pictures of the end result as soon as possible.

I had the rear windows tinted to roughly the same shade today. It was all done in a couple of hours and I'm really pleased with the result. Another top job by Auto Asylum.
