Hi Guys + possibly girls..;)

just bought a holder for my phone, sticks on the little window on the right of my steering wheel.

was wondering if anyone knows what the best (also easy) way to route the charging wire it would have to plug in the 12v socket in the centre near the handbreak. then im assuming possibly up through the gearbox section behind the stereo and under the dash somehow.. was hoping there'd be a way to get the wire up there without having it trailing around?

ive searched everywhere but no one seems to have mentioned anyhting regarding this.

Has anyone tried or found a solution for this?

Thanks

hi buksh

it may pay to ingnore cig lighter and pick up feed behind instrument panel.

if you take feed from cig lighter you still have to go through dash (drilling).

on the toyota tech site for wiring acessories for parking aid (free access) they mention a feed from a pink wire, this ignition feed.suggest fit a connector to dash to the left of drivers cup holder you can plug sat nav

doing away with the cig lighter connector.the cover over instrument panel just pulls off, then femove 4 screws.

there is plenty cable to let you lay the instrument panel on the top of the dash.gently dont mark dash board.

i dont know how many amps your sat nav charger draws, i would not think much.

you may be able a male/female connector from most auto shops that will fit in dash.

i would not be surprised if others have not something like this already, an can advise you better than i can.

good luck.

Hi Acetip,

im thinking your idea would be better. my dad is excellt with electronics and wiring e.t.c so im thinking what i may do is fit another 12v connection diagnally right below the steering wheel where i have 3 blank spaces. then i can unplug the charger and use it for other things too. obv making sure the wiring e.t.c is capable or supplying the current for the charger e.t.c :D

thanks for your suggestion.

hi again

been on RS website and found small jack plugs 12- 18 volt 2.5 mm,the female part that fits in dash is almost flush fiiting,so will look neat if you fit where i suggested just.to the left of cup holder about a couple inches

is what i describe as a seam in the dash.if you fit socket another couple of inches to the left again there is a small flat area.when you take out instrument panel you can get to the back this flat spot.

lets know how you get on .if you fit connector in the switch panel as you suggest wont it be near yor knees.

hi buksh

i phoned to tom tom (mines a 910) and asked what amps it drew a 12 volt and they did not know, some tec section, when using mains charger, the output from it is 5 volt 2.0 amps.i think it will pull less amps than this on 12 volt supply

but i am no electrician so maybe wrong.

as the blank spaces in the switch panel are only a push fit,and if you use a plug in connection for charger lead then when removing plug (pulling out)you may pull out the blank.a small dab of super glue may help.
