I'm a very nervous new Aygo owner - anxious to do the best for my engine. I'm following the guidelines for the break in period in the manual but have a couple of questions. When it says avoid high speeds how high is high? I generally aim to do a maximum of 50 at the moment. Is that ok or should I go a bit highger or keep a bit lower? Also, because I'm new to the engine (had a Yaris before) , I've had a few not so smooth gear changes and the odd time when I've laboured the engine a bit by changing up a gear too quickly. Will I have done any lasting damage to my new engine?? I really want to give it the best chance of a long and happy life!

Hi new blue... 60 mph max for 600 miles, no constant speed for more than 5 mins. That's what I have always stuck to, seems to work.

As to labouring the engine, the mmt version we have changes up very quickly and is usually in 4th gear by 30 mph...

Others may have differing ideas, but they work fo us....

Hi There.

Using a light throttle is always a good idea on a new engine.

Labouring the engine is worse than over-revving it.

The oil has to work harder in it's small gaps and gets squeezed out more easily.

When the engine is running fast, the oil has an easier time.

Modern oils & tolerances mean running in isn't as important as it was, but it still pays dividends.

Don't worry, I'm sure some Aygos will have been thrashed mercilessly from the word go.(I'm sure they were all driven VERY carefully off the ferry)

You don't hear of many burning oil or siezing. (Can't think of any actually).
