P1135 Error

Hello all. I have a 2002 Toyota Rav 4 2wd 4dr. My engine light has been on for about a month now. It has come on and gone off before, but this time, it does not want to go off. I bought a cheap (scanner) I believe they are called, and came up with error P1135. The scanner I bought does not go into details. So, what I am asking is, is the error P1135 definatly mean it's the "Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor heater"? And the other things I need to know are, is the error P1135 assigned to one bank and sensor? Would that be bank 1 sensor 1? And where is that located? Like I said, my scanner does not give that info. How many sensors does the rav 4 have? How many are air/fuel, and how many are 02 sensors? And which sensor is which????? I called a few car shops and they say the 02 sensors and air/fuel ratio sensors are different things, is this true? Any and all help will be very appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the club.

The A/F sensors are at the top before the cat and the heated O sensors are at the bottom. You need to identify your engine to ensure the position but if it is a 2WD that would be a 1.8 over here. You can refer to the attached pdf or post your question on the US RAV forum.

P1135 does refer to Bank 1 sensor 1 but take care, look how the manifold twist over to the back of the engine on the 1AZ-FE. As you would expect, bank 1 is at the front (No1 cylinder) but then the exhaust twists over to the back so bank 1 is at the back!!!.

Check your engine type and have a look and if that doesn't help just try the US guys as they may have the info for your engine.

I had a similar fault. The engine light came ON and then after a few weeks started flikering. then suddenly the car started loosing power and would not drive smoothly.

Did not drive the car for 4days and now its DEAD. THERE IS NO Battery POWER REACHING THE IGNITION ETC. NO INSTRUMENT LIGHT. I was told that it could be my ECM unit together with the automatic gearbox and the o2 sensors. Cost app. £3000. DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE HELP.

Start at the very beginning!

Charge the Battery, start the engine then either buy a code reader for less than £30 off eBay or nip to a local garage and get the codes read. Once you have them come back to us. Don't worry it can be sorted.

Oh and welcome to the club.

Thanks, anchorman, i will do what you said.

But i thought the Battery power is fed to the Ecm unit and then been distributed to the other

circuitry and if the ecm unit is faulty then it will stop every item being powered.

ie , no ignition and therefore no display illuminition. please advise me. Battery seems to be

charged ok.
