Yaris T4D Stalling And Now Very Sluggish

Can anyone help? I have a 2004 Toyota Yaris. The malfunction indicator lamp 1 is sometimes on for a whole journey then doesn't light up for a few days. Very random ~ Toyota garage said it was fuel system management and suggested a fuel filter change (3 years ago). I do get the filter changed regularly but still have light on / off. Today the light was on and the car cut out for no reason. After a few minutes I managed to restart it. 8 times in 180 miles, the last tem miles the car became very sluggish and I could only drive in a low gear. Relieved to be home ~ cherry on the cake ~ the cable snapped when I tried to open the bonnet.Car has done 118000 miles.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

i had an identical problem with my rolla lad, turned out to be dirt in the tank being sucked up and clogging the pump.

i had it with 6 different crowds including toyota, in the end i had to get the tank cleaned out and new fuel pump.

oh yea, fuel pump from toyota - €2000.......fuel pump from Bosch - €350

Sounds like an injection problem to me. You may have blocked injector/s

Thank you ~ I will mention this to the garage.
