Hi

I new to the club but I have recently purchased a rav4 nrg 2002 auto and it has been at the garage I bought it from more than I have had it since July. The problem is when you start off there seems no power and it pops this happens now and again.

Yesterday it drove like a dream but today had problems like going up a small hill it pulling and then pops into drive.

The garage I bought it from has not solved it and keeps putting me off saying stupid things they have done.

Has anyone got any ideas car looks fab but losing the will to drive it

I am no expert on the auto box, but did I read that they had problems with the ecu?

Thanks for the reply. I do not think it is the ECU(husband says) because it was fine until driving home on motoway lost power after braking then speeding up and then banged from below.

Welcome to the club.

I think you will find it is the ECU. There are many examples of the same problem on this forum. Toyota were doing extended warranty but I think at best you might only geta gesture on a car that age. It isn't cheap to put right but I think some of the owners found a place in the USA where you could send it and they did a real good job for about £500.

If you want to know more I will try to find the details.

Anchorman

Thanks for the info. Took the car to a toyota garage. They have tested the car and they say it is brake judder.(worst when you start the car for the first minutes)So I guess new brake pads and I have had 4 new spark plugs as well.

Thats the most bewildering tale I've ever heard

How on earth can transmission anomilies be translated into brake judder???

Hi

Your right not brake judder had a man around today its a fault with the auto box/tourque converter not changing gear as it should quoted min £2000 to repair. The garage I bought it from has had the car in twice for a total of 5 weeks. They men in the garage have been lying to us saying they cannot find the fault. So as the car is not fit for purpose I will try to get some comp from them.

Keep you posted
