Mpg Monitor

I've had my miles per gallon monitor changed by my Toyota garage as it was sticking at 60 miles per gallon. Now it has been replaced can anyone explain if this is normal - firstly, one of the miles per gallon signs jumps from 30 miles per gallon to 45 miles per gallon to 99 miles per gallon, that's when you're accellerating. Is this normal? The 2nd miles per gallon dial seems to be correct as it gives you an average miles per gallon when you are driving steady over a long distance, it has managed to reach 57 miles per gallon on an average long run. Please advise.

The first one is the real time monitor, the value should be very low when you accelerate and back to 99 when your foot is not pressing on the acceleration padel.

The 2nd one is the average mpg record, it reset automatically after you fill up your fuel tank.

I'm interest to know if the reset is achieved by simply opening and close the filler flap or is it related to a sensor in the tank or something like it?

I haven't done any testing myself but a previous post said the metre will only reset if you refill for more than half a tank.

Mine too was sticking at 60, so I have just booked it in for next week to have it fixed.

May I just remind you guys who have it done to ask Toyota to stamp the original milage in the service book. That's only fair and proper if you sell the car on later. I had to ask Mr. T in Gatwick to do it so it's possible the dealer might not remember either. :)
