Hi All

I have bought a 2004 avensis d4d t3 diesel saloon from an auction, at the time there was a slight white smoke from the exhaust, when I took it out it was not running with proper acceleration. one of my friend advised me to put injector cleaner in it and take it for a ride, so i did that but after around 40 miles , it still wasnt going above 50-60 miles. so i thought lets go back. as soon as i came off the highway and stopped at red light, it stalled. it only started again after half an hour, but then it started belowing heavy white smoke from the exhaust and finally stalled again at a red light. didnt start again. I took it to a diesel fuel system specialist and he has checked the fuel system and electrics, and they are fine, but just doesnt start, I then took it to another mechanic who said sometimes the timing belt slips, he checked that and thats fine too. just dont know why isnt it firing up? what could be the problem? any help, advice will be appreciated. Thanx

hello mate

nobody has been changing the diesel theory, yet.

are you sure it was a white smoke or steam?

quote "another mechanic who said sometimes the timing belt slips" -- it's false - cos the timing belt is tooth type.

your possible problems might to be close to you as follows:

- SCV (both) -- they are easy to check with megger test unit on ohmnedance. Incase they have some actual values deviation then this is a direct issue and both must be changed due to they are about to die (solenoid coils burning out);

- check with fine fuel filter -- whether or not it has water inside -- it is easy to check via draining screw/bolt located on the case bottom;

- i'd change this fuel filter insert to exclude this chain link;

- another possible issue might be with the same filter that might to have an air remainders inside and the diesel is not enough for engine;

- in case the engine is hard to start then check with all four injectors.

cheers/Igor

Hello Igor

I'm not sure whether it was a smoke or sgteam, as I was driving and I could see that heavy white smoke/steam in the back view mirror..

The diesel system specialist have checked ALL Four injectors and they are absolutely fine(charged £ 260). so there isnt an issue with that.

The other mechanic who said about timing belt has charged me £ 130 for that.

I will get someone to check the fine fuel filter,

I think I have to take it to main dealer to get the SCV checked I guess.

Thanx for your help anyway
