Radio Sat Nav Fuse

Well, the radio on my Toyota Avensis T4 finally died and presumably took the fuse with it. The sat nav must be on the same line cos that went too. I've replaced the radio but cannot find the correct fuse. I've checked the engine bay fusebox - all fine. I've checked the fusebox behind the glovebox - all fine. So where is it please?

Some web sites and a mechanic say it is on the right below the steering wheel but there is no fusebox there. My Avensis has a knee air bag so its is possible that this is a variation to the norm? Any suggestions appreciated, even if you think I'm barking up the wrong tree eg. check a relay (surely not?) and a non-visual fuse failure??

Please help. I'm all alone with my own thoughts in the car and will be entering a monastry soon!

In my Corolla, the fusebox, is behind the glovebox, so you could try and look there, otherwise, sorry

The fuse is a 7.5amp, number 42 (bottom left) in the fusebox behind the glove box.

Thanks for your help. Radio fuse is No. 12 behind the glovebox which unhinges easily. However, this and all fuses are intact but still no life to the radio and sat nav. Any suggestions please? Could there be a blown relay or something?

Have you still got the original H/U in, or have you changed it at all?

Most aftermarket H/U, have an internal fuse at the back of the H/U, so it might be worth pulling out the H/U and having a quick look just to make sure of this.

Has anything else stopped working cause of this, such as cigar lighter, dashboard lighting, etc.

If not, it would seem odd, just the H/U going down, but nothing else.

Thanks for your reply Man-bing. The radio-stereo unit was gradually failing over a long period, draining the Battery in the process (with ignition off). I tried inserting various resistors on the "live line" (which keeps the memory functioning) when it just completely failed, taking the sat nav circuit with it. I therefore assumed it was a fuse and now have to look for some other cause or find a monastery.

Sounds like you have got it wired with the ignition and constant live together then, which would be why its draining the Battery. Was you able to switch on the H/U without the key in the ignition then?

From saying that, i'm guessing you must have another fuse back there then of some sort, either you or someone else put one in.

I deffo check the wiring now, to see how its all been wired in, and make sure nothing worked itself loose then.

As your not too far from me, i could give you a hand, if you want

Thanks Bing, I would like to take you up on your offer. I can't even find a professional to have a look at it! The radio failing is this manner (memory circuit draining the Battery with ignition off) is not uncommon and was inherent on first purchase - long story. I checked the two lines, radio is definitely ignition controlled. Hesitate to forward my email address in case it is not done to make it public on this site - how do we get in contact?
