Lines In Paint

Hi,

My Toyota Auris is 14 months old and has only covered 6000 miles. Yet in the last couple of weeks i have noticed wear marks in the paint. Where the wind comes round the front edges of the front bumper and on the front doors. I know that I have not scraped anything. On the doors the marks are on the door just under the windows and are like long numerous fine scratches. No marks on wing mirrors as have not caught anything. Man from the dealership came and looked at my car today who told me that they are caused by dirty air. It is caused by the wind as when the car is damp and then driven you can see where the damp has been taken off in exactly the places where the fine scratches are. He told me that it was the problem with all black cars not just mine and even just gently chamoising the car could cause scratches. Any ideas as with this low mileage I hate to think what it will look like when I have done more miles especially if i decide to do any on a motorway.

Cheers

We've had two black cars - one a metallic and one a pearlescent. Black shows every little nick, mark, scratch, etc. We'll never have another

my black 2010 avensis has the very same and im very careful when washing it, it is the nature of the beast im afraid.

that said i treated mint to a good detailing and it seems better.

first a good jetwash followed by a good wash using a mitt not a sponge.

then i clayed it to remove any more contaminants .

then i used some Farecla black top glaze, its for removing compounding swirl but works very well with this problem.

then a good few coats of harley wax to seal the paint, this is important as it will form a barrier between crud and paint, hope its helps ;)
