Steering Rack Bushes Replacements

My Avensis Verso 2004 2.oVVTi auto has excessive play from the steering rack bushes. Toyota only offer the complete steering rack for in excess of £1000. The bushes are all of £6 worth of rubber.

Any ideas how to get some ? None on eBay as I write.

Help!

Presumably they aren't talking about the rubber rack mounting bushes as you seem to think, they will mean the internal bushes that support the rack itself inside the casing. These will be worn and allowing excessive movement at the rack ends where the track rods attach to the rack.

Hi. Thanks for the interest. To clarify, theses are the sterering rack MOUNTING bushes, not the bushes in the rack. The rack itself works fine.

Hi, my Avensi Verso D4D has the same problem, I have been informed by the mechanic it is the worn rubber causing excessive play, and again told have to buy the complete rack. Did you manage to buy the bushes and problem sorted or had to buy the whole rack.

Also been told very difficult to the complete rack.

They look good for the job but ................... £65.00 for 4 bits of rubber! :o That's what I call "being put on the rack" due to the high cost of parts from Toyota.:D.

Thank you! These were perfect - got them direct from ACS (http://www.acspowersteering.co.uk/ ) and saved myself over a grand!

(fyi they're actually solid steel now, no rubber, so no more perishing. no evidence of increased vibration yet either)

Hi allen_ja, Can you tell me if you're still happy with the all steel blocks?
I need some for a Voxy with about 38000 miles on it and they are the same part as fitted to the Avensis Verso. It would be good to fit the best thing there is to save them wearing out again.
