Ac Compressor

Can anyone help me? I got a 2004 Rav4 XT4 D-4D (chaiss no; JtheG20V500069705)a year ago and has been running like a dream. I was told that during the recent service that the AC compressor has seized (not a problem if i was staying in the UK) but migrating to east africa in a month with this car and so, a functioning AC has now become high on my priority list.

If i get this done at a toyato dealership, it will cost £1400(inlcusive of £200 labour). The alternative, is to get a second hand part which costs no more than £200 + £150 labour...only snag with this is that i need a part no. to ensure that the second-hand part is compartiable; trying to get this without removing the engine has now become a failing challenge..Could anyone help or advice?

I would just get one off a similar aged vehicle. Try findapart.com

I am intrigued what happen when AC compressor seizes! Does this not cause the belt to slip & wear / get hot on pulley? I'm surprised that the vehicle can continue to run? Or has just the AC bit seized & bearings & shaft continued to rotate freely? If so I wonder for how much longer that that might continue!

Have you still got a DMF fitted? If I was going to Africa I would buy a SMF kit £480 & take it and a load of other spares wiv me, I guess the cost of fitting it out there should be peanuts but sourcing one could give you prob's!
