Remap

Anyone know if its worth remapping the ecu or fitting an add on chip to a 2.2 06 avensis?

Hi mate, you cannot remap the Toyota ECU but do a search on the forum on this subject or contact Partsking (Lindop Toyota) by PM through the forum for more info as most other suppliers will give you promises that don't come true, there is no cheap solution to what you are trying to achieve.

Good luck anyway but please note that the 2.2 d4d can have problems with the head gasket so any extended warranty from Toyota would be compromised by fitting a device which increases power..

Regards Pete.

Your sign in details show "Avensis 1.8se", and I am easily confused....?

I previously had an '06 T3X Avensis 2.2 D4D, and had toyed with fitting the Lindop Toyota / Parts King / Kingo Chip Kit, but to cut a long story short....I didn't. Then last year I traded it in for the car you see described under my sign-in details (do we call that one's "handle"....come back, good buddy....)

I wholeheartedly recommend it, and remember well the bog standard power of both the Avensis and the new Rav, but this puts it into a different league, and although very nippy, it does it in a very refined sorta way....I ramble on.

Supposedly, bhp goes from 178 standard to 218.....don't care personally about the figures.....it puts a smile on ma fat face when I give it a wee bit of waterproof knee length footwear....!

Furramore, I would endorsificate the comments of T-Spiritpete....do not go down the road of these "el cheapo" pluggy-in things on e-bay.....it will only end in tears and your wee thing will end up in "limp mode"....perish the thought !!!

PM Parts King or Kingo (SAME GUY....PERSONALITY DISORDER....), who will also be well aware of any warranty issues their kits affect, WHICH IS HOPEFULLY NONE....?????

Big Kev

I also can vouch for Parts-King. His chip gave me a lot of joy and zero problems. Sadly I had to sell it as I'm on a lease car and the contract is about to end.

As for the record, the new 126hp D4D seems to remappable. There's a Finnish company which is offering a remap for it. 730 euros and the power figures are 150 hp and 384 Nm of torque. Pretty good. This company is not a fake, the owner is a very respectable guy in remapping scene. He always does the remap using a dyno so you'll know exactly what you get.

It's usually not worth remapping naturally aspirated petrol engines in any case. They just don't have the scope for significant power gains without serious physical modifications being carried out.

With this model it would just mainly be to allow the vtec/lift cam to kick in earlier increasing overall power. I know it can be done as a mates mate had the same car and had that done to it.
