Oil Change

Not had my XTR long (57 plate 2.2 D4D). I want to get it Toyota serviced every year/12 k as I don't know what I'm doing and want the book stamped. In the mid service 6 months/6 k intervals is it worth changing the oil at least and is that something I can do without !Removed! up?

OK, just remember that Mr T's intervals are offically 10k or 12 months. :thumbsup:

There are at least myself and I think also Anchs that do an engine oil change ourselves every 5k. Is it worth it? Well, if you are not doing it yourself, maybe not worth the expense and modern oils are far better at extended drain intervals. However, it is fairly easy to do yourself :yes: and there are people here to guide you if you are not sure.

Then again, there is a school of thought that says frequent oil changes can go a long way to maximise the life of the engine.

Why do I change at 5k? Probably because of the last statement and also an irrational dislike of extended oil change intervals.

For your guidification, Anchorman did one of his brill pictorial guides....see under pinned section for Service Hints and Tips / Oil Change 2.2D4D. Even I will have a go at the 5k miles mark.

I do intermediate oil changes as well - Kingo's filters and Anchormans oil + instructions - you can't go wrong :thumbsup: I've run nothing but diesels for 40 years and despite modern oils etc, I'm just not comfortable with 10k oil changes

know what you mean,i had vw diesls from 1985 till recently.these were 5000 mile oil and filter changes (big filters too).but did oil change every 3000 mile and filter every 6000.these were the old indirect injection 1.6 turbos.

engines were bullet proof.passed mot emmission test every time without any problem evan after 15 years from new,that was a passat by the way.dont build them like that now.no dmf,no cat,no egr,no dpf.no drive by wire.but then no cruise control,but i hardly use the one i have now.no auto wipers/lights but i can turn these on when i want to.but being fair the two mondeos tdci i had were a lot smoother and the performance far better.
