Has anyone come across this windscreen treatment? It is shown as DUCKBACK or might be DUXBACK

It is being offered by my local Toyota dealer at a special? price of £19.95. Says it lasts a long time and makes a windscreen frost free as well as keeping it much cleared in rain.

Hmmm - redesigned website again.

Anyway, Duxback - as in, "water off a ...": Duxback

Haven't tried it, but got up this morning and started thinking about such things...

Seems to be a Rain-X variant though?

Watcha Guy....trust thou art well,

Would agree with Marsky.....probably some polymer variant of Rain-X, which I regularly use and top up anyway. Seems to last about 6-8 weeks. With you being one of our fitter senior citizens, I would still suggest the money they are asking isn't all that bad, unless you enjoy the elbow grease of applying / waiting / buffing off?

Big Kev

Hi Marksky and Big Kev,

Thanks for info - all the fields were very frost covered this morning so made me think it might be quite good but the T180 does live in a garage most of the time. must admit I am getting lazy in my old age so if the price is low might just get it done in a week or so.

Wonder just how long it lasts and if using de-icer does that shorten the life?

Best wishes

Guy

Kev are you under snow yet !!

Personally I would steer clear of that product. That's not to say its rubbish but there are cheaper alternatives that are tried and tested. I very much like the Carlack - Glass sealing kit. It comes with a glass cleaner that IMO is essential for getting durability out of these products. There are some high end products available from Nanolex and G Techniq (£20+) that offer long durability and get good review.

I always thought these treatments would smear and be annoying. Obviously I am wrong.

I couldn't really find a Carlack retailer easily, but fund AutoExpress article on a few alternatives (?) . These any good Blue?

You can buy Carlack from www.cleanyourcar.co.uk failing that Rain X. Make sure your windscreen is very clean, maybe even clay? Two separate applications on windscreen and buff off well or risk smear / wiper judder

I don't like the "radar trace" these products give at night with the lights on the screen.

That is exactly what I thought would happen! I had the RAV washed by one of them foam-on / pressure wash places on sunday, and they applied "wax" (despite me saying no and not paying for it) and it is 'orrible. Some kaind of "micro-mist" lingering about for ages. I'll have to get it off somehow. I think I got some Half-rods glass cutting compound left somewhere... ("Cutting" sounds scary! )

I have never had a tracer problem when applying Carlack it's about glass preparation prior to application, apply & leave to haze fully then mist with water prior to removing. I use heavy duty blue roll and it works everytime. I normally repeat twice.

I think an untreated windscreen is more dodgy, well driving up here with salty roads and high % of annual rainfall in the highlands. My wife and father both ask me to treat there winsdcreens for this reason. Carlack is very good and what I normally use
