Dash Lights Gone And Fuses Keep Blowing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Anyone had the problem that the fuse for the dash and parking lights keeps blowing. Going to be an issue with the dark evenings approaching. There is an issue with the aerial motor that it wont cut out, unless i turn off the radio and start the car a couple of times. I think the aerial is served by the power to the rear parking lights not sure.

Car is 1997 and is due for an MOT retest in 2 weeks.

Any help would be greatly received.

PS If anyone knows were i could get a second hand aerial motor. Mr. T is talking about some serious wonga!!!

as for your problem, thats gotta be a short somewhere, im not the best at electrics but i guess it would be a question of following your wires back and checking if there is a short, im sure there must be a guide to the electrics on the forum somwhere, what connects to what etc

hi there, the problem with the aerial motor may be the cause of the blown fuse, a toyota witring schematic needs to be looked at and it could be that the 7.5a fuse supplies the aerial motor aswell as the parking lights and dash (bit cheap of toyota to be honest). there are only two things which could blow a fuse which is either a dead short (maybe a faluty bulb or chaffed insulation on electric cable or an overload for an electric motor (aerial motor??) once the aerial extends fully and the motor continues to operate it could put the motor (and fuse) under more than the desired load thus blowing the fuse,

there may be a faulty relay stopping the motor drop out at full extension, i wouldnt hav said it was a problem with aerial motor itself.
