All,

I am a new member and hope to receive information from you all. I have a RAV 4 D4D diesel, which broken down yesterday. The AA recovery person told me that the problem is with DMF and he towed the RAV 4 at my home. This morning the local garage also says that the fault must be with the MDF - after explaining him what had happened. As I was driving the car it suddennly stopped driving. All gears can be engazed okay as normal but when you want to drive, the car doesnot go forward instead makes noise in the engine area.

The local garage tells me that the fault is common. I rung the dealer and he says the cost for repair is £2000.0 total. I asked him for discount but he said he needs to confirm this on monday but he is not optimistic that I get the discount. I would be grateful for your advice, knowledge and experience with this problem.

waiting for your info.

Thanks,

Gunner 2010

Hello Gunner and welcome to the club.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

If you search you will find many references to the problem you have. A good starting point would be to read the Dual Mass Flywheel thread by Anchorman pinned at the top of the page [if you haven't done so already] I wish you luck with getting sorted at a reasonable price

Also look in "For Sale" section of forum, and contact Anchorman direct, as depending on which Rav you have, he still has a full DMF replacement set for sale.

Good Luck,

Big Kev

Hi gunner + welcome, If you could kindly add your year + model we will be able to help you better, unfortunately the dreaded DMF issue affects virtually all series 2 diesel model ravs, Toyota are well aware of it + extended the warranty to 5yrs and/or 60,000 mls, only on the dmf + only certain models, what they did not do IMO was make this general knowledge. Most ravs are out of this criteria now, however if you know a decent independent, or are pretty competent yourself the parts can be obtained for less than £400, and some have managed to get the job done for around £800 quite a difference from the £2000 Mr T have quoted, Once done you have a really great car which should be free of any major problems, hope this helps  Stew

Hi Gunner,

Would be easier to say what Anchorman doesn't do rather than what he does do  He is a true 'Man of many parts'

One of his many talents is to be our moderator on the forum and, if you look in the pinned section at the top of the RAV4 homepage, you will see postings by himself. If you click on his name his profile will pop up and you can send him a message

Not sure if you will get an intelligible reply initially as he has, apparently, been spending the weekend with Big Kev who is is not known for being stingy with the Scotch :drunk:

True - he isn't stingy and now I know what Monkey Shoulder is.

I don't have a DMF for that model but you can get one for about £300 off eBay. Then you need a local garage, a mechanic who does foriegners or you need to do it yourself. We did one recently on Wollaston's but it was hard work.
