Problem With Toyota D4D 2,0 85Kw Engine

Avensis Diesel

Recommended Posts

Toyota 2004 Car of 85kW 2.0 D4D diesel.

Who have a similar experience with some of these engines.

The problem is this: if the engine is warm and then lowering the engine speed, the car starts to twitch. The car starts to lose power. When holding the accelerator pedal at the bottom, nothing happens. Motor is thinking for 5-10 seconds, then throws a cloud of black smoke from the silencer.

When the engine is cold, there is no problem. Cold start, idle, and acceleration is very good with a cold engine. When the engine reaches the normal operating temperature, the problem reveals.

Then again, sometimes I can drive for a long distance with a warm engine, without that problem.

Toyota service said that the problem is the engine nozzels. I switched off all four nozzles, which were very expensive. But the problem is still the same after that. So the nozzles were not causing this problem.

Waiting for detailed advice.Email me

hi mate

if engine is well started - it means both timing and injectors and plugs are in order.

what about EGR valve??? when it was last cleaned? check with it + change fuel filter + check with both SCV mounted on the pump body. i feel it will cure your head ache.

Good luck/Igor

It might help you more to post on the Avensis forum as well, as you will be more likely to find someone who can help there. :)

Classic symtoms of sticking EGR valve.

The Avnsis forum has an article on cleaning one.... Easy peasy. Spanners and carb cleaner and rags and care job. Under 60 minutes.

Any fool can do it - I did on my Yaris diesel :-)

my 2003 avensis d4d at 188kmls ,got the exactly same problem, hot engine at lower gear lack of power,no problem on the moterway.I put a new EGR valve(264 euro) on,but the problem still there,no DTCS.it could be the diesel pump failure.
