Avensis 2001 'chirrups' When Cold

Hi Gang!

I love my old Avensis Estate (1.8 vvti petrol) 150k miles... Runs great but

has started to make a high pitched chirrrping noise when cold. I thought this might be

the ancillary belts being a bit worn...or is it the water pump starting to go? Or is it something

completely different? Any ideas greatly appreciated. It doesn't use oil and has been well serviced

by toyota.

Cheers

hello captain

it would be better to hear this noise, that is in question.

the easiest way is to open the bonet and start the engine and listen carefully. i am inclined that the belt could be an issue due to to be adjusted.

:thumbsup:Thanks Igor! had a proper listen and the noise is coming

from the belt tensioner...and the belt looks a bit glazed

so I will get and fit a new one soon. While I'm at it I'll

check the tensioner bearing too

Happy Toyotaing!

Captain

AS far as I remember -- both are subject to change simultaneously - you ll kill this issue on the root.

Good luck/Igor
