Hi, my 2003 rav 4 d4d vx has suddenly struggled to start. seems to take about 3-4 seconds to turn engine over then runs normally.have this morninng been to local garage where a fault code was identified. code P1228 Fuel Pump System Malfunction (short) . does anyone know the problem and the likely cost of repair, is it possible to run with the fault?

thanks in advance for your help/ suggestions

yes it might be one of the possible reasons -- but you can imagine how this filter element is blocked. I diisagree with them. Cheers/Igor

My glow plugs went too.

You can find the instructions for fitting a fuel filter in the pinned section. You can also find info on the SCVs as this code is often linked to them. I think Igor is correct.
