Abs Issues

Hi Guys,

We recently bought a second hand RAV4 2000 model. Engine No.1AZ0232735. The problem am facing is that when the car is parked, there is a buzzing sound from the ABS. And when seated during the buzzing sound the brake pedal vibrates as well. When starting the car the ABS light comes on with a Red Exclamation mark on the fuel & Engine Temp area. The buzzing sound sometimes goes on and off. Its really an issue coz it chews up Battery as well. Any suggestions on this please.

Hi and welcome to the club.

I would suggest that something is causing the ABS pump to run and this is the cause of the pedal vibration - it is there to tell you the ABS is modulating. You could try disconnecting each of the sensors one by one or have the system checked to see if the ABS ECU is getting a stray feed or if it is purely a fault with the ECU. You might have to find a Toyota distributor as the early systems can normally only be read with dedicated equipment.
