Avensis 1.8 Vvti Engine Blown Up

Hi everyone.

my 51 plate 1.8 vvti avensis broke down on the motorway. The oil warning light started flickering on and off. It then came on permanently and shortly afterwards the engine stopped. There is still oil in the engine so don't know cause of failure. The AA man thinks it could be a serious mechanical failure.

I guess i will need a new engine but how much is this going to cost ? Also will it be worth it, should i just scrap it.

If i scrap it, does it have any value ?

Your thoughts and advice would be much appreciated

regards

Ken

I'm in a similar boat to you Ken.

My Avensis did this, without any oil warning lights. I have contacted Mr Toyota, but I am not expecting any joy from them. Mines a 2004 1.8, and its an oil management piston ring - or something like - that has gone on my engine, all the oil has exited the engine round the pistons. Sounds like a bag of spanners, and hence i think a scrapper, unless Mr Toyota smiles kindly on me and agrees its under his extended warrenty (7yr old, 100k miles).

The Toyota dealer quoted me a rough cost of £4k for a new engine (parts plus the labour), so not really worth it for a 6 yr old car! Totally unhappy, my last toyota was going strong at 150k miles! Mines sat on my drive like a lump of waste metal!

so, would also like to know about residual value, or I too have to start the whole buy a new car with nothing again!

Sounds like bad news.

Anyone want to buy a 2002 Avensis VVTi 1.8 GS petrol. New exhaust system including CAT. 5 good tyres with alloys. £40 worth of petrol. Located in ILKLEY West Yorkshire.

cheers

Ken

buy mazda i did after my toyota avensis 05 54 plate used 1 litre of oil every tank petrol mr t did want to know

Yeah, but not the Mazda diesels. Their DPF works in a strange way, pushing excess diesel into the *engine oil*, thus diluting the oil and raising the oil level to seal bursting levels....

No such thing as a reliable marque these days, every manufacturer has some problem with some of their designs. Often expensive problems these days too.
