Multidrive S Transmission And Shift To P While Moving

Hi,

I did this stupid thing this morning that I unintentionally tried to move the stick to Park position while I was not completely stationary. The result was a rattling sound.

I was doing at most 5mph and I was not forcing the stick in the P position. The car seems to run fine. I am just wondering if this could cause any damage to the CVT gearbox ?

Thanks.

I really like these modern CVT gearboxes!

You won't have done any significant damage but try not to do it again. The park brake is affectively a large pawl that drops a single tooth into a large toothed gear. Its like sticking a peg in the spoke of a wheel. If you do it at speed the pawl will dance off the top of the teeth until it is going slow enough to drop into one but it would eventually wear the teeth and the pawl which might allow it to pop out of park.

Have a look at the bottom of this page;
