I am about to change car possibly to a New Avensis Diesel Tourer T4 Nav 2.2 D-4D. Official figures show combined mpg of 50.4. Has anyone got this model and if so what average mpg are you actually getting?

Hello, mine is a 2007 2.2d4d hatchback so the 2010 model may be better but I get in summer 39mpg all town driving, I can achieve 62mpg on a long run but the average for mixed driving is around 47-48mpg, during the winter months this drops by about 2-3 mpg and I am very happy with that from a large car that performs well. Theses figures compare well with the Toyota figures but of course it will vary with your driving style.

Regards Pete.

Just to support Pete's numbers - mine is an estate and doing 50mpg+change (mostley motorways) in the summer and dropping to ~47mpg in the winter.

I think numbers are a bit better if you let the cruise control work (if possible...)

ive got a 06 2.2 t-spirit 90,000 and dont drive on motorways but drive early mornings and early afternoon (so not much traffic) i get an average of 45 down from 47 since it started to get wet and cold. but ive found that if im ever going down hill to just pop it in neutral and coast downhill, this increases the MPG as its just ticking over

If you leave your car in gear and coast down hill you will use NO fuel, whereas if you leave it in neutral your car will burn fuel just to tick over at idle speed.

i didnt know that, even when the revs are showing 2000rpm? or do you mean put the clutch in also?

No don't put the clutch in, if you change your MPG display to "momentary" with the steering wheel button you will see that when coasting down hill by just taking you foot off the gas the display will read 99.9 mpg which actually is the best it can compute but it will be using no or very little fuel. This mode of display will help you change your driving style for best economy but don't pay too much attention as you may end up shunting another car.

I have a new style 59 Avensis 2.2 T4 saloon.

Forget 50.4 MPG. Think more likely 45-47Mpg.

I am not disatified with this consumption.

Another tip is that it is very MPG sensitive to speed in excess of 65MPH (Clock) 60MPH (actual)

Increasing average speed from 65 (clock) to 70 (clock) will reduce the MPG by 10%. Going to 75 will knock another 10-15% from the MPG.

I have been tracking my consumption on fuelly since the vehicle was new. The effect of Winterised Diesel fuel is evident.
