The Carina Is Dead, Long Live The Carina!

Now the story begins on thursday the 11 of november 2010 yes, armistice day.

Travelling home having had a rather poor day at work, you know the kind, nothing goes right can't do right for doing wrong and its only thursday a whole day before feel good friday. Utterly cheesed off and sick of the wind and rain popped in to the chippy for tea. What a mistake that turned out to be for what transpired next does not make for happy reading; on leaving the chip shop with haggis, smokie and chips (wrapped in paper and not one of those silly cardboard boxes which i can't stand) placed the wrapped parcel neatly in the passenger footwell, smashing. However whilst on my way home i noticed a car with its headlights and hazards on and i can remember thinking must have broken down WRONG, WRONG, WRONG in fact if it was'nt for her headlights i probably would have seen the fully grown beech tree that had just blown down and was now lying in the middle of the road! Unfortunately for me i did'nt, and doing 30mph in a 30mph limit (ahem!) i ran straight into and over it causing damage to:- front n/s wing, mirror, headlight, indicator light, bonnet, front grille, bumper and exhaust. Straight onto the insurance company (AA) very nice and helpful picked the car up today just waiting for it to be assessed. Between you and me it's going to be a total loss. Such a shame 1.8 auto r' reg 110k miles full mot full tax just put a full exhaust system on it too! If i don't get offered enough then i'll tell em i'll keep it and fix it myself cos it would only cost about £150 in parts from the local scrappies cos he has loads just a case of getting the panels sprayed, i have a mate at work that can do that. And if they do offer a good price then i'll buy it back and keep it on the road. The upside is i was able to drive it home hitch the trailer to the wifes car grab the chainsaw and get myself enough logs to cover the winter. !Removed! loved that carina too!!

Now having to tootle around in a citroen ax diesel (YUUUKKK!!!) And the insurance company isn't going to repair it so now just waiting for a massive offer of £9,000!!!!!!.........................oh ok about £900 hopefully.

Well, that is better than nothing. I guess a Carina E is worth about that much in average. I guess you are going to buy it back and repair it as you wrote in your previous post.

Well had the assessor phone me today with a price. At first he started off at £500!! Not happy with that but i eventually got him up to £700.

And it's only gonna cost £100 to get it back which is alright by me, also he's gonna deliver the car back to me for free when normally it should cost a £100! Bargain. Soon as i get it back i'll try and get some pics up.

It'll have to go for a VIC to check the identity and that the repair has been carried out correctly, anyone know where i'll have to take it and how much it costs?

Well the main thing is that your okay - as i always say cars can be repaired or replaced - can't replace people though.

Damage doesn't sound too bad - assuming youve not discovered additional damage in the meantime - i can't see a vic check being a problem as from what you say its all bolt on and off parts. Its not like your replacing the whole Shell or something.

Sorry to hear about the prang though

Yep its all bolt on there's no structural damage and no damage to steering, suspension, driveshafts etc. As you say as long as we're all ok.

Still waiting for it to be delivered back, Nationwide accident centre who have the car phoned on the 22 nov and said they could'nt guarantee delivery before xmas and i would have to wait until they had other jobs in the area!!!

Straight back on to my insurers and as soon as the snow clears i'll have it back.

Went down the local scrappies and priced all the parts:

n/s front wing £20

front bumper £20

n/s wing mirror £15

n/s headlight £10

n/s indicator light £10

grill £5

bonnet £20

Total £100

And my mate at work can spray the panels for £100. Don't know how much a VIC will cost but £200 is'nt bad to get the old girl back on the road.

Good Stuff

If you can get it on the road for 200 quid - it will be well worth it, nice cars those Carinas.

Am i right in thinking that they are paying out 700 quid - letting you have the car back for 100 and your hoping to get the car back on the

road for 200 quid. By my calculations - you will have the car back on the road and 400 quid in your pocket. If thats correct youve not

done too badly. Could have been a lot worse.

Its good that you will be able to get it back on the road

Well got the car back at last, however now i don't know what to do with it as i have bought a toyota avensis. 85K miles, s/h, mot and tax til next year and it's in immaculate condition inside and out.

Might just break it for parts and then scrap whats left. How much do you think i can ask for spares or repair?

I'll try and get some pics of the damage over the weekend.

Well i have now decided to sell the old girl. I've put it on eBay breaking for spares. I've also put a buy it now on it of £175 for the whole car, does this seem like a reasonable price?

Sorry to hear your tale of disaster, what happened to the chips? :naughty:
