Hi all,

Just wanted to post some info about my beloved beast. I've had 3 generations of Rav 4 for the last 10 years and got my T180 ex demo march 08 from RRG Macclesfield. All has been fine until i got it serviced (50.000) last week.

I was told that it had compression problems and that they needed to run some tests... After a few days I was told that it was not the heating system but the Head was warped? They have replaced that under warranty but i am obivously very worried if this is an error thats known in the forum. Having taken my beast out on more tests apparently the engine mantanace light was still on and it now needs a replacment cat convertor too. This all seems a bit much at 50.000 miles. I got the car chipped (Steinbauer) last year at Toyota so its up to 225HP and have a lot of kit that i wizz about the country in. Should i tone down my driving style or is the chipped 180 too much of a beast for its metal?

Sorry if you've talked about this before but i love the car and wondered if anyone else with T180s has had cyclinder head problems.

Thanks for any advice, Carney post-101374-013051700 1289922255_thumb.j

Hi all,

Hi Carney,

I got my 56 reg T180 in June, with 48,000 on the clock. In early October cylinder head gasket went, had 50,000 on the clock.Took it back today to have a once over check on it after 900 miles.Got a clean bill of health.Seems that around the 50,000 mile mark, thats when the problems start.Fingers crossed nothing else happens.By the way, noce piccy.BJK

Ah ha - a neighbour of mine.

Don't worry about the chip - it won't affect the reliability. If you want to avoid problems you must use high grade diesel. I get mine at Disley (Total) but you can get it at various places in Macc' too. It cost a bit more but it will stop problems with the DPF, Cat and the EGR. Call in for a brew any time (Chapel) and I will talk you through the ins and outs of the T180 You have got a cracking car and you should be enjoying it not wary of it.

Very pleased we have another T180 member in the High Peak, if you are calling on Anchorman I am sure he will let me know and I will slip round.
