A Weird Decision?

Like a guy who has just posted on another recent thread, I have a 2007 verso. Initially I thought rear parking sensors (which were fitted as standard) just another extra I didn't know I needed. But now I wouldn't be without them. A v useful facility, although obviously they won't stop that guy behind from shunting me. My only bind has been "Why didn't they fit them on the front as well?".

My point is, though, that as the vehicle is 3yrs old I have been seriously considering replacement with the latest edition of the same thing. However it seems that sensors are no longer standard. Instead, you get (on the version I have been shown) a sunroof. Now I've had sunroofs previously, and even opened them very occasionally. But the car is fitted with full aircon. Useful if I wanted to aircon the whole of the Thames Valley!

Give me back my sensors instead of a rarely used sunroof!

On new Verso you will be not able to open the sunroof, because it is a panorama glass, without any opening possiblity. Actually I find it quite nice. In cloudy weather it makes a little bit lighter in the car. In the periods from Autumn till Spring I keep the sunschade open.

And about Park sensors - in new Verso you can get the rear Camera in Mirror, or on SatNav. People finding this good enough.

Thanks syoma. Must admit that I hadn't realised that the new roof was only a glass panel, not an opening roof. I also now understand from the latest magazine that that there's the solid panel you mentioned, which you can close if the sun is actually too bright (some hopes!).

Yep I'm sure that the camera would be great, but it's on the higher spec Spirit vehicle. My point was that the sensors were standard on the TR, although no doubt they could be installed as an optional on the new version?

Incidentally it appears that cruise control - standard on my TR - is also now only on the Spirit?

Every so often I get a missive from Toyota suggesting that I might like to trade in my '58 D4D SR for a new model. But why should I? I'd get less power and fewer features than I've got now, unless I spent a fortune.

At this rate the new Ford C-Max is going to eat Toyota's lunch bigtime

On the subject of sensors, when I got my 06 registered TR I had rear and front sensors added at a cost of 400 pounds. They were worth every penny. The front ones are a great asset.

Re the question of the spec on the new models - why should I change when I would lose Cruise control, 6 stack CD player, auto dimming rear view mirror, And I,m not sure but possibly the auto rain sensing wipers. No way would I consider the new model when the spec on my old one is so much better.

As the previous Verso was coming to end of life Toyota started adding lots of extra kit to them. When I bought my SR spec 08 Verso in Spring 2008 the extras above a T3 spec were the rear parking sensors, tinted rear windows, climate control and rear spoiler. By the Summer of 2008 the SR spec also had front parking sensors. My car also has the push button starter another item that was removed from the new Verso unless you go for a T-Spirit.

When you compare the "extras" on later model previous generation Verso they are far superior to the new model specs.
