Ok.. Remember how I mentioned how jumpy the clutch was on my Rav when i bought it... Well....

Took it into Mr T today to have that and a number of other issues looked at.. Here's the outcome:

1) No warranty registered. It was bought from an apporived Mr T dealer and should have come with their one year warranty.

2) Front disks / pads need replaced.

3) Rear calipers are binding.

I add here I have had the car a mere 5 weeks...

4) Tow bar not fitted correctly. there is a sheared bolt and the whole thing needs to be removed and refitted. I paid extra to have the dealer fit it for me so it's only 5 weeks old.

5) Interior light switch needs replaced.

6) Rear parking sensors keeping going crazy. Not fitted correctly. There is "no cut out" and it appears the sensor is constantly detecting the bumper!!!! Useful. Note: I also paid extra for these so only 5 weeks old.

7) Rear tyres only got 2mm on them

8) Steering column intermediate shaft needs replaced.

9) And last but by no means least... The DMF/clutch arrangement has gone Pete Tong! (hey that rhymes!) :eek::eek:

"Take it back" I hear you cry... No can do... dealer is in N Ireland, I'm in Edinbugger! Spoke to them and they are going to follow it up! The big things should be covered under warranty when it gets sorted....

Me = unhappy bunny...

Well theres a first for everything and that is the first DMF if it really needs doing. Some clutches could get oilon them but the gearbox oil seal has now been modded - that would cause your jumpy clutch.

As for the sensors and the towbar, that is down to the baloons that fitted them.

Steering intermediate shaft - has probably been like that for a long time. Its expensive and with the other things you either need to sort that warranty out or start discussions with the guys in N.I.

Good luck.

That thought did cross my mind, although I don't know about the gearbox issue!

Agreed! I kind of told the guy in NI that aswell!

Dunno if the issue has been there for ages or not however i have noticed the clunking getting more frequent. I thought it was just a ball joint (as did my uncle who used to be a mechanic!).

Total bill was just shy of £3k!! I don't think so somehow! The boys in NI are on the case. I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash!

Ouch! That is a bit of a list! :( Sorry to hear you are having so many problems with your RAV.

I would have thought that the warranty is your first and most important thing to get right, (and you seem to have that in hand). I have been told by MrT dealers that the Approved Used warranty is quite comprehensive, even better than extended warranty.

Anyhow; Steering shaft noise - there is a TSB for that, so clearly it should be covered by warranty.

Here is a quick handy referencefor you.

Disks/pads = Umm, this may be a bit of an issue. Pads are consumables, really, and not that expensive anyways. Disks, OTOH and in my opinion, are not. Toyota disagrees, and has moved the goalposts - decided not to bother honoring the warranty on disks on cars "older than 18 months or 12000 miles" if I remember correctly. (BTW, I got this info from the better of two EH Western Toyota garages).

Another handy ref.

Having prepared you for the worst-case... :) I would still think that both the front disks/pads and rear calipers should be covered by either the Toyota Approved used warranty or the Sales of Goods Act 1974. And you should insist that they fix it for you.

As AM says, sensors and towbar clearly down to installers incompetence. Coming to think of it, might be an idea to get in touch with "Western Group" (and maybe CC-in ToyotaGB). That could, potentially, save you a trip to Northern Ireland.

Tyres - neither here nor there, I suppose. As long as they are road-legal, they can argue that you bought a used car and they come as-is.

Keep us posted on the clutch/DMF.

And chin-up, I've been there and I know it is all really frustrating, but I am sure it will all get sorted eventually. Overall, MrT dealers really are quite good.

They gotta be better than the Renault bunch you were dealing with recently?!

Surely?

No?

I'll get my coat...

There are 3 possible issues with the steering;

Just clunks when you turn towards full lock on a smooth surface = top suspension plastic washers. Cheap parts but quite a bit of labour.

Clunks when you are driving straight and maybe a little when turning = steering gear (rack and pinion). Expensive parts and quite a bit of labour.

Clunks when you turn the wheel even slightly and you can feel it in the wheel when it does it = steering intermediate shaft. Expensive parts and quite a bit of labour.

Kingo. Can you price these parts in case anyone wants to have a do at them?

Thanks dude. I'm not worries about it. Theres a bit of history with the boys in NI. Its where we got out last car and where my father in law has always bought his cars as well as vans etc for the company he worked for. I know they'll do everything they can to sort it.

Bothy, pardon my ignorance but are you a dealer? If so where??

I'll keep you posted...

I'm sure Bothy will reply when he gets over being accused of being a dealer. Whatever you do, don't let him find out where you live :crutchy: :blush:

Good Point as always AM. I thought I was quoting the thread that had a link to Intermediae shaft TSB (ST001-08), but I can't find it now for the life of me. In any case, that is a lot more thorough answer than I could muster anyway. :thumbsup:

:eek::eek::eek: Oh dear!

I'll go hide behind a sofa for a while! :)

Wee update:

Rav goes back in on Monday for two days to have everything fixed except the DMF. They are going to do a thorough investigation to make sure that is the issue then address is another time.

Still haven't got the warranty sorted and will call again next week.

And to top it off, they're going to programme the key while their at it as their doing so much work on it! Score! I am going to replace the tyres myself I think though.

Thanks again for your input. I'll let you know how it all goes once i get it back!

Webblers.
