I have bluetooth smart phones that i can try with :)

Can anyone tell me if the electronic hand brake is a pain or does it always work no problem?

To be honest that's the one thing I don't like. It works fine but the positioning of it is just daft. The button is right by your left knee, so if you're a big bloke like me it's a pain to get to. It's also very counter-intuitive as you push to engage and pull to release. The Toyota mechanic I spoke to said lots of people have commented on how daft it's position and operation is.

Actually, it's a clever solution.

It saves a lot of space in the interior of the car, releases automatically, and works perfectly.

Admittedly, it's the only thing in the T27 Avensis that needs to get used to.

The position of the switch is... well.... "open for discussion".

And that's a difficult subject, because it must be located such, that it's unlikely to be engaged by accident.

So it cannot be located at the steering wheel, for instance.

Because if you would switch it on accidently while driving, it does what it is supposed to do.... BRAKE, and it does it very positively.

Well my friends Passat has the same mechanism and its more trouble than worth apparently, but nice to know it seems to at least work better here.

Like all things, i suppose i will get use to the position of the switch I suppose.

many thanks for all the info, now all I have to do is to find a good one at the right price! saying that and through research so far, I may wait for a few more months and wait for a few more 2nd hands that comes with the new 5 year warranty, but then again VAT goes up in Jan... predicament or what!?

  • 9 months later...

I know its a bit late but for whats its worth I too have a 2 litre cvt t4 tourer (09 plate). Can't recommend it highly enough. Have covered 30K miles with not a hint of a problem. Cvt box is one of the best around. Very smooth even in manual mode. T4 has all the kit you would ever need. Everyone that's been in the car have been impressed with the comfort, quietness and built quality. Fuel consumption averages around 34mpg in town and around 40mpg on motorway run. Not back for such a large car.
