sounds about right to me , Dont expect good consuption in stop and go style of driving with any car ( and your is 4x4 ).

I am getting 30 mpg , 40mpg on motorway ,( you can do better with carefull driving if you not heavy footed ;) ), 40 000 miles on the clock .

Stop start traffic will kill any mpg... apart from if you have a Lexus RX450H  ;)  ;)   ;)

My RAV (coincidently with 138K) regularly does between 42 and 45 mpg...I also have the countries biggest carpark to deal with as well, the M25. As part of my journey too from work....

So getting those low figures you quoted is some what odd...I would at least expect higher thirties for a diesel...

Is the journeys you do just short...and not getting the RAV upto temperature..before stopping again

is there any device or additive out there

that actually does improve mpg or are they all a waste of time?

Waste of time. In fact, search for Top Gear's test of additives on YouTube, and you'll see they actually made the mpg worse.

hi mate

i used to use an inertia method to keep consumption in limits - otherwise a city drive is not for good consumption.

They're all smoke, mirrors and snake oil. The only way to improve MPG cost effectively is to drive in an efficient manner and keep the vehicle properly serviced, tyre pressures correct and cut down on short, unnecessary journeys etc.
