Carina E - Factory Car Alarm Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm new here. I've got 97 Carina E CD Auto which has been a good and reliable servant for the last 3 years but recently have had problems with activating and deactivating the alarm using the remote fobs. One fob now only works with about 1 in 20 tries and the other about 1 in 5. I've changed the batteries to no avail and had a garage check the fobs which indicate the fobs are sending out a signal to the receiver in the car.

Can anyone recommend what I can do about this as the garage says to disconnect the alarm altogether would be a fair bit of work and cost a few hundred quid. I'd really like to know if anyone has had similar issues and what they did, ie replace the receiver in the car?

Thanks

Rob

we had a problem with the alarm on our carina executive, where the alarm went off at random times once it went off when it was being driven. In the end the garage just took it off. i don't think it cost that much. The fobs we have are a bit wierd and at random times they stop working completely. my guess with ur car is ur fob has two buttons on it one to lock and the other to unlock. To reset the fobs press and hold both buttons for 2 seconds. Some times they cost loose the codes.

hope that helps.

Alarm in ma Carina likes to go off randomly too and I do not know the reason. Similarly to you and other people with that problem I was advised to remove alarm completely. But there is less painful solution to this. If you read the manual you will find how to disarm it and I do it every time I leave my car.

When you close the the door, use your remote to unlock it and then quickly lock with with just the key. If you wait too long to lock it (like 30 seconds or something like that) with the key it will arm itself. But if you do it fairly quickly, such sequence disarms the alarm and it will not go off at random.

Hi

thanks for the swifts replies. I'll certainly try that trick about disarming the alarm using the key quickly after locking with remote. Yes it is the black remote with 2 black rubber buttons for lock/unlock.

I was quoted £100 to disable the alarm completely by a garage. Was this the sort of amount you were thinking of C Danny?

I had that some years ago with one of my Carina's. the fob had gone out of sync with the alarm receiver, 5 minute job in the dealership and never a problem after that....

Hi mate,

once my fob began to act up i tried a new Battery and it still didn't want know properly so once i caught it stabalised i have never messed with it since and so use the key every time. Infact one fine day in the spring im gona throw the fob in the bin! when i get round to ridding myself one time of the immoboliser and alarm Watch this space. I dont know why any one would want to spend money at the dealers fixing them and i would not be supprised if you can even buy a new fob now, who's gona steal these cars anyway! They are simply a good cheap car below a £1000 to run round in. If you want to get a quote for someone to disarm it try a good auto electricin someone mentioned a hundred pounds that sounds more like it, rather than hundreds of pounds dear me??

This is what I found in the manual. If you want to make sure that you have disarmed your alarm successfuly, just wait a few seconds and have a look at the 'alarm warning light', which if the car armed itself will be flashing. If you disarmed it, it will not flash. I have been doing it since a year or so and it works. You can unlock your car using remote no probs and the only thing to remember is when you lock it to do it using that sequence:

- close the door

- unlock with remote

- lock with the key

Just remember, if you wait to long to lock it with the key the car will arm itself and the light will be flashing.

Really sorry i can't remember how much it cos to have taken off. But you could simply do what Rafal said. The alarm light stays on when our car is locked what does that mean?

I am not quite sure what does it mean if it stays on all the time. I know that when it is flashing that means that the car is armed with the alarm. When you close the door without locking it the light will be flashing too but it does not mean that the car is armed with the alarm. All of this is actually confusing : ) Check the manual guys if in doubt, there is some info about the alarm.

arrgghh. took car into this car alarm and immobiliser specialist and he said only option is to remove entirely or replace alarm. no remote re-sync is possible. can't believe its been installed in such a way that you actually have to use the alarm rather than just say, use a key to enter or lock car without touching the alarm system. cheers for help anyway.
