Broken Wing Mirror

Hi all

When I bought my used iQ a couple of months ago, I noticed that the driver's wing mirror had received a knock previously. Because of this, I've been fanatical about closing them up every time I've parked the car. (They do seem to stick out a lot.)

The other morning, I adjusted the passenger mirror slightly before I parked it for the day. But on my way home, the mirror just sheared off at the base. It's now hanging by its wires.

Toyota have told me that it must have received a knock during the day while it was parked, but I can't believe that. They were closed up, and there was plenty of room either side of my car when I parked it anyway.

I'm wondering whether I weakened it when I adjusted it. (Yes, I did do it electronically...)

Has anyone else had problems like this?

Not had a problem myself but my iQ is only a month old, just wondered if the prev owner may had super glued the black base of the

mirror back together after receiving a knock and this cold weather has made the glue brittle and wind turbulence has weakened the glue? Sounds far fetched but happened to me on a mk1 fiat punto I bought 2nd hand years ago. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wondered whether it might be linked to the frost too. I can't see any sign that the previous owner glued it, but I'll double-check.

I also had my mirror hanging by the wires... because it was hit by a truck...

I had to change the whole mirror. it is the iQ3 mirror that close electrically with a button

Thanks. Toyota have told me it must have been hit hard by something, and that simply adjusting it wouldn't have weakened it, and this has been confirmed by someone I showed the damage to. So, now I have to fork out over £350 to get it replaced. Not a happy bunny...
